Why can’t we have it as a general public transport megathread?
These are nice trains. Although the seats can be a little uncomfy at times. We have 5/9 car ones come by our house many times a day, which is pretty cool.
I suspect it’s liability, they don’t want you running someone over on company time?
If it evolves that way, then I’m more than happy for that to be the case
I suspect it will end up that way anyway
But thats the best part!
I choose not to use public transport. I had a bad experience with an overcrowded train from Paddington a few years ago and vowed to never risk putting myself through it again.
It still stuns me that there is no occupancy limit and they will just cram trains full of people. On this particular occasion, I was literally unable to move and in pain. I just don’t get how it’s legal.
I’ll stick to driving.
They are good trains yes. But they replaced the best intercity stock this country ever had the Class 43 HST.
They are good replacements apart form the GWR ones which have No Buffet Car, Horrible 1st Class and not enough platform leveling support.
I travel on the Class 800 at least twice a week and i dont dread my time on them I just wish it was something else. Not a 387 thou Ewwwww
They keep the flashy lines clean.
Jubilee Line and Victoria!
Yeah I find the LNER ones to be really nice. Just a shame GWR is all there is for long-distance travel down here in the southwest.
I also use 158/165/166 somewhat frequently. SWR 158 by far has the best seats. Super soft.
Thats about it ahah
Oh yeah. The LNER ones are lovely. Proper Buffet Car, Lovely 1st Class, Full Kitchen and Capable of 125mph without falling apart.
GWR was the first TOC to get the Class 800s and it was a massive mistake as they are nothing but issues.
Also they look strange at Paddington Station!
Lizzie line has also been pleasant on the several times I have used it. Probably my favourite line out of them all, although technically it’s not a tube line.
Oh my god i agree!!!
If I can’t take the Heathrow Express back home, I take the Lizzy Line just for fun as its a really good line.
Efficient, Clean & Just Awesome!
I love boats. Although I’ve never been on like an ultra big one. Biggest has probably got to be a Condor between Portsmouth and Jersey ngl. Really want to go on a cruise at some point, but they Hella expensive
Royal Caribbean run one of their big ships to the Netherlands and back once a week for cheap if you wanna go on a big ship!
The Heathrow Express is such a con. If you arrive at the station at the wrong time it’s not that much faster than the Elizabeth line too at a much much higher cost. They need to axe it and run more Lizzie line services to Heathrow instead.
Or better still they need to approve the Heathrow Southern extension to allow rail connections with Staines, Woking, Clapham Junction etc.
Oh and don’t even get me started on the Gatwick ‘Express’.
Yeah the Gatwick Express stops at 3 stations on the route so not very express and stops at 5 during rush hour!
My point was more that nobody uses the Gatwick Express when there are Southern trains out of the same station that are much cheaper and only stop at Clapham Junction and East Croydon.
My train to/from the office is a GWR Class 158, either 3 or 5 carriages depending on what’s available. Not a fun journey as it’s almost always standing room only…
