Yeah if they did that it would mean huge numbers of people would be unable to use the pay at pump at all because it wouldn’t be able to authorise that much.

This sounds like something from the dark ages, and also how many cars take £100 worth of fuel at one time, mine only takes £55 worth.
The problem is pumps vend to not just cars but vans and minibusses too, I am sure some of them take close to the £99 limit?
I’ve never used this method before but my local Tesco pumps allow you to preselect the amount of fuel you want in advance in either £ value or litres.
Surely there could be a way of allowing someone to use this method and then have the card charged prior to fuelling thus allowing those with less than £99 to still fill up?
