Cost of living crisis? What crisis?!
I don’t think people have really understood quite how much they’ll be paying for energy by the end of the year.

Class show that
I do think launching a streaming service now is a bit risky but will probably be a good indicator at how strong the market still is.
I do think Paramount+ faces a slight issue from the fact a lot of people dont really know what franchises they own. Even I wasnt 100% they owned Star Trek and that is one of their biggest franchises.
Everyone obviously knows Disney and Apple TV+ handed out enough free trials and still has a low price so people got an idea what sort of content they have to offer. If the marketing for Paramount+ isnt effective at showing what is actually Paramount, i think many people will just ignore the service.
Transformers and Halo
Seems to be doing well in the US.
Hard pass. I’ve hit my limit for streaming services (at the grand total of two that I pay for and two that my partner pays for) and I stubbornly refuse to take on anymore. I’ve got all the Star Trek I love already and Discovery didn’t float my boat.
As have I. I do, however, have a “nomadic” subscription. So I subscribe to NowTV, Sky Cinema, Britbox, Disney+, etc for a month at a time each so as to get the best of all worlds.
It has the added benefit that the services will often offer you a deal to come back (I’m just about to subscribe to Sky Cinema for £1 pm).
£1 per month for cinema???
How’d you get that
If you’re getting Sky Cinema thought Sky (and not NowTV), you’ll also get Paramount+ as well…
My Sky Cinema sub (which I do get through NowTV) is currently £3 per month - but that special offer finishes next month so I need to remember to cancel that.
The only thing I legitimately use at the moment is Discovery+, as that’s on a 6 month free trial. I’d not clicked in to look at that Paramount prices until now, £6.99 for content which was already on other services before someone got greedy.
I’ll just carry on floating about in my pirate ship
NOW do like to hand out special offers all the time. Just got one for the Cinema membership for £2.99 and am currently on the entertainment one for £1.
It’s an inducement to come back. There are a few catches. It’s only for three months, and only the first month includes HD. I’ll have to remember to cancel the HD after the first month if I don’t want to pay an extra £5pm.
Sky Cinema doesn’t have enough content for me to pay a rolling subscription, so I leave for a while until I get an email with an offer. If you are a heavy Sky Cinema user, the strategy might not work for you. It works for supermarkets, too.
Nothing wrong with that…however for 6.99 a month I’d pass too.
Will def subscribe for a month or two to do a complete Frasier marathon.
The only show I care about is Halo and I’ve been watching that with my friend’s subscription, so presumably that’ll continue to work, I’ll just no longer need to use a VPN to access it.
Do streaming exclusive shows still release to be bought on iTunes does anyone know? With the continued fragmentation, might just be worth buying the odd show I like from the services I don’t subscribe to as opposed to just signing up for month.
Call up and say that you don’t feel like it is value for money anymore. They’ll likely give you 6 months free.
That’s all I do with my sky packages, then rinse and repeat. I think I pay £4 for Netflix through Sky too.
For the exclusive shows (like Halo) I would expect the same setup as the exclusive shows on Disney+ - like the Marvel and Star Wars shows and I don’t think they’re available anywhere else.
Star Trek Discovery though is available on iTunes. I suppose wait and see if the new Star Trek show (Strange New Worlds) premiering on Friday in the US is also still made available on iTunes/Amazon/Google Play etc.
I think there’s a different agreement for shows paid per episode and ‘owned’ than those streamed as part of a membership. I’ve often seen ‘exclusive’ shows available that way.
I’m happy to pay for this one, for all the Star Trek content, plus a few other shows I’ve really enjoyed when viewing across the high seas But I think the time has come for my Netflix subscription, I’ve been a member since the day it launched in the UK but now Grace & Grankie and Ozark have ended, and Better Call Saul is about to end, I think I’m done.
With Paramount and Apple TV+ that’s about it. Amazon is part of what I pay for anyway so I’ll keep that too, and I hop on to Now when they have Sky stuff I want to watch but it’s always on offer so just a few quid a month.
It still adds up to a lot less than Sky ever wants for a satellite subscription.
I have a feeling it won’t be, given Paramount is about to launch and they want to drive subscribers there. Picard you can’t buy, but can watch on Amazon. Discovery only went on iTunes after the massive outcry from fans who couldn’t watch it on Netflix anymore. I get the US is their core audience, but you’d have thought they’d have held on to the show for a couple of months and use it as a global launch (or done that with Strange New Worlds!)
