I’d guess that’ll be a no. It shouldn’t intentionally put you further overdrawn.
I want my account rounded so I’m not going to do it, but this challenge does feel badly weighted.
£108 in the most expensive month of the year for most people. Maybe by that point you’re used to this and it’s only £13 more than November
Good luck to those trying it. I’d be curious to know the % that complete it.
This was my thought when I saw this challenge, which of course is not new in financial circles.
It’s definitely not for me. I prefer to divide my target by 12 (months) and put the same sum aside each month.
But then I am currently running to 15 regular savers!
Good to see. It’ll now free up applet on IFTTT
Hey
Is this ANOTHER thing whereby the joint accounts are excluded ???
I’m going to try. It’s whether I can remember to make the transfer each day (I’m doing it on my own due to restrictions)
As already suggested, why not just use IFTTT?
And as I’ve said, I’m not trusting an American corporation with access to my Monzo account… What a way to open your account up to various hacks/account security breaches…
Besides, it takes like 2 seconds to make the transfer
The integration is created by Monzo?
Probably worth doing the tiniest smidge of research.
Also, I can only have two IFTTT things at once before I have to pay to have more happening at once. And I’m not paying for something I can do for free myself in a few seconds…
Or Monzo could just allow their 16-17 users to use the feature, just without the £10k prize.
Will their be the capilbilty to do the challenge in reverse? December is the most expensive month of the year!
I’ve completed the 1p challenge (IFTTT) for a good few years now. So there’s at least 0.00001% proof
If you want to do this manually, here’s a Google sheet showing the daily, weekly and monthly amounts to put into a (savings) pot - for both forward & reverse 1p challenges:
(The sheet assumes you start on 01-Jan-2025 and never miss a daily/weekly/monthly deposit)
And if you’re a qualifying paid-tier subscriber, the final amount would be approaching £700.00 with applied annual interest (at the current rates)
EDIT: I’ve added the Monzo 1p Challenge as a worksheet, with the start date as of today for reference.
If there was any risk do you think staff would be recommending it to you here?
This is CIFAS paranoia all over again
I do the IFTTT reverse option so in December it is the smallest amount not the largest. If you can do the reverse I would switch off the IFTTT one.
Personally find this a really unappealing approach to saving (daily + constantly changing amount). But interesting to see that so many seem to like it.
I agree. Most people get paid monthly / weekly, and bills are usually the same. Most expenditure is periodical but then you have to keep in mind and budget for an ever increasing daily spend, too.
It’s fine for those with heaps of money in their accounts, but if by the end of December your account is empty-ish it could lead to a bill bouncing.
But each to their own.
I think it is great, my wife and I already have 12 pots between us, but it would be great to end the year with nearly £1,400 we can put towards anything we want. The monthly/final draw adds a fun incentive to keep going. Any idea when we’ll be able to sign up in the app?
In January. That’s all we know at this point
Ive done this a few times before, didnt mansge to complete, but got as far as November because you know, life, lifes!
I see some suggesting to do in reverse, but id like to suggest doing it randomly (doing it this way was my most successful year!)
Print the daily amounts off, and put numbers 1-365 in a google generator, pay the amount that is drawn & tick the day off!
Obvs if a number already paid is drawn, draw again!
Even thiugh i didnt finish the challenge, doing it this way had my saving well over £500, i think close to £600.
Ill try again this year, but im not an extra/perks/max member so will miss out on the enhanced interest rate, but i do have a high interest savings pot already for my safety net, so will do this myself into that pot.
All the best everyone!
