Natwest Chat ♻️

Looks pretty cool

I reconnected to my Natwest online banking yesterday (I had to re-activate it, probably due to long-term inactivity), but then it started asking me to use the card reader to log in. I have not used card readers in ages, but I have always known you can use any card reader for any bank (i.e. doesn’t have to be a card reader issued by the bank you are trying to access). This still seems to be confirmed in Natwest’s help pages, so I used my Nationwide card reader that I have handy.

However, I couldn’t get in, as every time I tried it told me the code didn’t match. I tried several times and I am now one time before getting locked out. Has anyone experienced this before? I cannot call Natwest until after work so just wondering if it’s ever been a known issue.

Yes, NatWest have moved many of the notifications into the App. If you request a second code then it will come through as a text.

I guess it’s cutting down on text messages codes, as they’re not as secure.

The cynic in me thinks they are cutting down on texts due to cost, rather than security. Banks are now reknown for following best practice when it comes to current security trends (see password requirements, refusal to update their flows with app-based or hardware key authentication, etc).

Yep, pressed the correct button every time. I will call them and sort it out, as I also have an old mobile number stored with them so I can’t go the automated call/sms way either.

By the way, going through this last night I noticed that Natwest give out a Malwarebytes key free of charge to all customers. It’s great because mine was running out so I took the opportunity to renew it using the free key - it’s for 1 year and up to 10 devices (much better than my previous one that was for 5 devices, now I can give it out to friends too).

Also works with RBS :grinning:

The NatWest Rapid Cash Tills from the 1980s were quicker than ATMs are now.

Just had to do my driving licence upload as not clear when I did it last night after applying for a rbs account.

Firstly I guess I never put voices to people here so it’s interesting to hear!

Secondly NatWest could improve it agreed, though I am fortunate to recall it all so it’s never an issue.

Thirdly as a tip, your customer number really is just 4 digits to remember as the first lot are your birthday. Mine is just my birthday plus 4 digits so I just remember the digits.

Shouldn’t that be “off and on again?”

I have three NatWest apps, and I’ve only ever gone through this faff once each time, setting them up. Are you logging fully out each time??!

1 digit in my case  you don’t need to enter the leading 0’s.

Just registered for the rbs digital biometrics. Took since Friday when got on the app to be enabled.

Mine is my birthday, plus my birthday, plus my birthday reversed. I assumed everybody’s was

(It’s not 300 characters, I just originally wrote exactly which parts of my birthday and which order, and realised that probably gave away more detail than I wanted to).

It’s not the banks worry about resetting my phone it’s the stuff on Google or Microsoft Authenticator. :joy:

You should be able to back that up to Google/iCloud/whatever nowadays, though?

Almost 48 hours later and I still get the below…

Bit weird that this seems to be impacted by weekends/bank holidays, but ultimately I’m sure it will be fine once I’m in.
