checks email no email, phew - what is it with Monzo closing accounts? I went into my overdraft last year because i was stupid, so if anything,… I’d better be keeping an eye out

There do seem to be a spate of these, but when you look at other forums, Monzo don’t seem to be alone at culling accounts at the moment , it seems Natwest, HSBC etc are all doing the same. which makes me think somethings updated and changed some peoples risk profile ??

I’ve stuck this on slow mode as I am off to try and catch a bit of daylight for the first time in ages and I don’t want it spinning out of control
I will only add that they won’t be closing accounts purely because you do not pay as they would go straight from 5 million accounts on Sunday to a few hundred thousand tops. Most users have free accounts, so naturally they would make up the bulk of these closures

Hope this doesn’t happen to me, I love monzo - I’ve even gotten a qr code of my monzo.me link tattooed on me so when people owe me money they just scan it

Maybe this will finally get the old NatWest joint account I have with my ex closed. I could never be bothered tracking her down to get it closed.
well I hope I can CASS out of Starling before they close down my account to 1st Direct …fingers crossed as its been largely inactive since I opened it …

That’s all I use my account for so I will be expecting email saying closing account
It’s around 2” I’ll try to get a photo when I finish as I’m on my break atm
It’s nowhere inappropriate I have a dot sleeve and it’s hidden in it on my wrist
The qr code is actually changeable as it’s a custom one I have it used to be a direct link to my information such as a business card but I changed it to this.

I don’t have much more insight than anyone else here, since it’s been almost a year since I left.
But I think this is incredibly, incredibly unlikely to be the case. Although most accounts aren’t meaningfully profitable, they aren’t significantly lossy either, and closing free accounts means less customers that can be targeted with existing or future profitable features.
It would be a ridiculously counter-intuitive strategy to do this.

Unless the account is in dispute or was set up as both to sign (unusual and if you have/had a card then it wasn’t both to sign), you can go to NatWest and close a joint account just on your signature.
