Unless that roadmap was shown to people in-app who were signing up for Monzo Plus I don’t think it is that relevant?
I’ve always wondered who is in charge of “designing” this product, and who is looking at it and approving it for release to production.
Complete shambles.
When Plus launched, I remember reading in disbelief. I hoped that it could be good in the future, but at the time it seemed like an absolute waste of money. I was amazed that people were willing to sign up, based on the vague suggestion of things that didn’t even exist yet but might do in the future. Essentially, paying for nothing.
I thought one day I’d be sitting back watching as people realised they’d made a mistake, and perhaps even find it a bit funny. I don’t. I’m genuinely annoyed on behalf of the people that did sign up, because this isn’t just a situation where they signed up and then the product improved but not in the way that they wanted it. Instead, it’s a situation where people have signed up for a terrible product and somehow ended up with even worse…
I like Monzo, a lot. I loved Monzo when I joined, and I’ve shared Monzo with other people and brought them on board, but I’m really losing those positive feelings at the moment.
It seems that the forum is full of suggestions for genuinely useful features that are just being brushed off by Monzo, whilst the features being launched are not necessary. Then, the entire Plus thing has just seemed like a wild grab for money, which doesn’t create a feeling of confidence.
Monzo was different because it helped with budgeting - it was a proper ‘money management’ bank account, from instant transaction updates to very handy pots and an easy-to-use interface. I feel like it’s getting harder to use, and doing nothing else to stand out from the competition.
I’m sticking around because I like what’s still here - the things I signed up for, the pots and the budgeting. Right now, there’s nothing else better to move to. But honestly, if another bank went back to basic Monzo and did it right, I’d consider moving. And I don’t like that, because very few companies had my attention like Monzo did at the start.
I’ve already gone for Pingit (which is saying something, considering the effort I had to go to in order to sign up), Monese and Coconut, rather than doing more in Monzo, because I feel that great features are missing. And usually I’m someone that (against recommendation I’m sure) likes to keep all of my financial admin in one place, so the fact that I’m now juggling multiple apps and accounts is a big signal - to myself - that I’m losing faith very quickly.
In the good future, Monzo Plus is going to be all about customisation and convenience and it will definitely compete on price with the best bundled accounts in the market.
A lot of people on this thread mentioned bundled accounts from other banks. Now imagine how much better it would be if you could take away the one feature you don’t use from those bundled accounts (e.g. travel insurance from Nationwide FlexPlus because I already have travel insurance) and pay a reduced monthly fee as a result? Or conversely, imagine if your needs changed - perhaps you bought a car or a property or started a family. With Monzo Plus, you can quickly add a couple of relevant services such as insurance or roadside assistance to subscription. You won’t need to worry about whether the vendors are any good or whether you have all the information required to sign up at hand. You will effortlessly sign up for everything with a few simple taps.
The Monzo plus base subscription will have enough benefits to be worth it, but the real power will come from the optional extras. Right now there are two paid extras. in the future there will be dozens. They will be priced competitively with off-the-shelf solutions but you get added convenience and peace of mind accessing them through Monzo. We also know there is demand for different styles and kinds of cards, too. We’re experimenting with more high end finishes and even metal cards. This won’t be important to everyone, but for those who care, they will have the option to get such a card, too.
The above post is from HERE by Monzo co-founder.
Apologies for quoting people but I feel frustrated on Monzo changing their not so old position all of the sudden after users had signup to Plus. If Plus was not ready for launch and they were not clear on strategy, the whole thing should have been delayed. Monzo essentially have miss-sold and as an investor and keen user I feel let down.
I… I just… Don’t know what to say.
Can you pick a start date or is it the date you sign up?
For payment I mean
It’s the date you signed up. They haven’t built that ability yet either
Loyal Monzo customer here, but the way they have handled Monzo Plus is worse than the Apple Pay debacle
I think the biggest plus out of all of this is that the website looks better
I think I agree with everything you say, @Cheryl, but I shouldn’t quote your entire post. I think you sum it up well for a lot of people. Well said.
Did they leave this rollout with the work experience guy while they all went for a pint?
So a complete 360 on “the vision” and what we were reassured with a few months ago. They said bundles were bad and they didn’t want to do that
My main question is… with other projects being shelved in favour of business and plus development.
Whats to develop? Wheres the plan?
The plan and what we all were told they were working on is what I linked above
Who knows what it is now
Agree with you. They should scrap the whole Plus thing, refund and apologise, and go and work in a well thought product for six months.
I would have signed up to Plus had I not been continually lied to regarding the monzo.me URL
When MVP goes wrong!!
Seriously, Monzo have gone against pretty much everything they said at the outset. Tom literally said that bundles weren’t good value!
Lounge access £25 per person. My local airport is £25.99 at the most without Monzo Plus or any other subscription. Walk in price. Pointless.
I honestly feel the whole thing needs scrapping and rethought.
