Monzo Plus - what would you like to see?

I agree some people on here will think its great, others not so much , Im a “fan” and in the not so much camp , I dont have a problem with other “fans” thinking its great

This is purely my opinion, but I always like to see unbiased reviews on things - If something is “great”, I’d like to know why, and that absolutely includes the “value”, or at least the perceived value, of whatever is being reviewed.

Would it still be “great” at £100 per month? No, it likely would not… So considering the price is one of, if not the most talked about aspect of Monzo Plus, it would be nice to get a good balanced argument from the “lucky” few who are testing it.

Alex is a big fan of Monzo, and for him to find £3 per month worth it, or enough to justify it as “great”, that’s absolutely fine in my book.

It’s no different to people buying Monzo items from the shop.

But as this forum is pretty much based on comparisons with other financial institutes, it’s worth pointing out the similarities between the likes of Barclays, who offer all of this stuff for free (minus the swag), and then add that to the overall review so to speak.

It’ll be interesting to see more reviews come in, but as I imagine the only people signing up to this will be the very loyal supporters, I’m sure the reviews will continue to be overwhelmingly positive for the time being…

Yeah that’s fine and is what the forum is all about

I don’t want to be one of those people that get offended on behalf of others but the way it read was that he was being attacked and asked to justify for his decision to sign up and pay £3 per month despite answering the question ages ago.

At the end of the day, it is his money and he can do with it as he pleases. I’m sure he knows what other banks offer and ultimately will know more about Monzo Plus than all of us!

Which for me is a sticking point. Any company can probably sell almost anything to a loyal fanbase and come back and say it’s an overwhelming success.

The key testing point is how someone who would just like the product/benefits but with no loyalty would fare under the system. In this instance, I genuinely cannot believe this is, right now, fit for purpose.

I dont think you can get much more loyal than me  , Monzo haven’t sold it to me , I hope in months to come they will provide me with something Im happy to pay for , and I can only believe that is their intention, rather than some others thinking this is an offering to purely rip customers off . for me personally not good enough , improve it and I might change my mind. If others think differently …fine .

Well, ignoring the comment about “no other banks offer this”, I’d agree that someone who has subscribed to Monzo Plus, should know more about it than us watching from the sideline.

But at this point, a review without taking into account the price, is like those 5 star Amazon reviews where the people haven’t paid for it…

I mean, what is actually being reviewed right now?

The card? OK, we can all see and understand what a different coloured card does.

The Monzo URL? Again, we all have one, and some of us had it customised previously. Although, still no clarification from Monzo over what you are allowed and whether you’ll retain the URL if you stop paying for Monzo Plus?

The swag? We have no idea about this - @alexs, does the sign up process give you any indication of what this will be?

That’s literally it - We can all make our minds up about Monzo Plus given that info… And it’s hard to see how anyone other than the most ardent of supporters would love this (which, is absolutely fine btw…).

What I will say is that this is great feedback, and a big ol high five for this…

Wait, does the Barclays card have a hot coral core??

100% and if it looks like I think Monzo are ‘in it for the money’ then I apologise because I don’t think they are. Making a profit is important, to them and for me as an investor. Right now I think this profit margin is just too high (in terms of what we pay vs what it costs Monzo) and I can only hope that it improves.

Personally I don’t see how Monzo benefit from having people on Monzo Plus with the current offering. It’s not like a beta test of an app to iron out bugs - this isn’t something that needs testing. Just get a full suite of offerings first and then roll it out.

my rip off comment wasn’t aimed at you at all , sorry if it came out that way

I can buy a Hot Coral sharpie with the money I’ll save and still have £33 left over for the year.

I’m sure you don’t believe that a Hot Coral core is more impressive than a completely personalised debit card…

But if that Hot Coral core is better in your eyes, that’s absolutely fine by me

Ok but that’s not what you said though

Design your own Hot Coral card on Barclays create your own debit card?!

Thanks but you’re missing the point I’m afraid, this isn’t about customisation for me.

I think he is talking about the colour on the edge of the card, the colour of the plastic

True, I didn’t think you were being serious about comparing Barclays, with their completely personalised offer, and Monzo, with… their Hot Coral core…

I mean, unless I’m missing something, we are talking about that line going around the card which is mm thin and barely visible right?

Yes you’ve mentioned these points a few times now and you’re even repeating what I said near the start too:

I agree with you. It isn’t for me at this stage either but if someone else likes it, great :+1:

I love the concept of what it will become so perhaps that and the reduced cost will tip me over :man_shrugging: Either way though, we’re all arguing about something that hasn’t been rolled out yet. I can’t sign up, can you?

Until then I’m holding out for the promised future plan :sunny: For all we know there might be some new perks being added tomorrow and all of this will have been a waste of time and effort :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

This could be perfect if that initial £3 was removable - But seeing as this is the “high margin” product that they need to keep (for now at least), I’m wary that it may never compete with likeminded products.

The whole “bundled/bolt on” packages are ace - If it was done right, it would be very useful for so many people.

I’m excited for what it could become, but I’m also conscious that despite the initial feedback (a few months ago), being overwhelmingly negative, they ploughed on and released it in the exact same form anyway.

Bear in mind I was one of the people who was “interviewed” for my thoughts on Monzo Plus, and I know of at least 2 others who said the same things as me, about how it wasn’t worth the money currently etc etc…

Anyway, I’ll leave it there, but lastly… Just because no one else can answer this…

@alexs - Any word on the swag?

I’m interested in this too :grimacing:

From the sounds of it, it doesn’t seem like anyone has received anything yet though.

No, no news on what the swag is yet

Hi Alex

There currently is a 14-day cool-off period. From the T&CS -

Cancelling and renewing your subscription :rolled_up_newspaper:
If you change your mind, you can cancel your subscription within 14 days of signing up.

At the end of the 12 months your subscription switches to a rolling one and you can cancel it any time.

It sounds like maybe we could make that clearer? Thanks for the feedback! And I’ll double check about resubscribing.
