Oh p.s. I notice from the small print that (due to consumer protection) you can cancel within 14 days … do you wait 14 days to send out the new card?

Can I sign up, get a card, cancel and then send £5 to Tom to cover my ill-gotten gains?

Only kidding

Why 46? It’s a random age, no?

Investors already have a gold one, sorry bud!

That’s what’s in Pluto’s terms for the policy, I assume as it lets them sell their insurance cheaper maybe. Im trying to find out where Zurich is at as monzo advertise both Pluto and Zurich but there’s no mention of it anywhere. Pluto themselves say they are underwritten by zurich which isn’t what monzo is advertising.

So I’m trying to find out if the Zurich insurance is just missing but will be added and will cover those over 46, or if it never existed in the first place.

You could spray paint it I guess and that would look pretty cool. I know one of my friend paints her old debit cards to make a massive portrait.

I would pay for it if I get the hot chip mug

Echoing what others have said, £3/6 a month for essentially nothing feels really non-Monzo and makes me sad! I wouldn’t pay this for a card in a different colour and a URL I don’t think anyone needs? As for the events/swag I doubt most people would be interested (myself included) and it would almost definitely be very London centric when a lot of the population are not based in London/wouldn’t travel for some Monzo promotional tat.

What I’d actually like is phone insurance as well as travel insurance at competitive rates. I currently pay £10 a month for phone insurance with a traditional bank and it’s the only thing I use that account for at the moment.

Travel insurance would be a lot easier to have billed monthly with yourselves at a fixed monthly fee than having to remember to renew/compare pricing on a policy each year. This would need to be worldwide cover as standard.

To be honest charging for an extra foreign ATM limit seems like a bit of a p*sstake when it used to just be free.

Also I’d want what I’d consider Monzo’s take on chargeable additional extras aka something totally different to what any other banks are doing. Personally I’d love a link up with Clearscore to help us understand how we can sort out our finances using the data you both have on us. I’d pay for that information and it would also get me using my Monzo account moreso than my other current account.

I wouldn’t be happy if you introduced better interest rates on things, why would you not offer that to all customers?

Monzo don’t even report to Clearscore so wouldn’t imagine we’ll be seeing this anytime soon.

Love the idea of Monzo rewards as long as it wasn’t the standard crap like discount at Bella Italia!

True, I guess with them not having any credit products I’ve never really thought about it before. I wonder do they have to report to any CRA?

Noddle TransUnion / Callcredit.

I’ll admit, this is the first Monzo feature I’m not hyped about, and I feel like the message and the implementation are working against each other in this case. For example:

monzo1

In the blog post for Monzo Plus, the text tells us that the main problem with other banks is that you end up paying for things you don’t want, and out of the items in the compulsary bundle (shall we say… core bundle?) you still have to pay for the stuff you don’t want.

According to the post, Monzo Plus defeats this by being something that lets you pay for the things you actually value.

So, how about a Monzo Plus experience that is actually customisable?

(Currently) Uncustomisable Core Experience: £3/6

  • Different coloured card: Don’t need, prefer my Investor card. -£1/2
  • Customisable URL: For banking, my name is fine and actually preferred. -£1/2
  • Monzo Plus events: More interested in Investor events, which according to the first email are starting from the middle of year. -£1/2

So currently we’re at £0 for the things that I actually value. So keeping to Monzo Plus’ own mantra of being “something that lets you pay for the things that you actually value”, how can we make Monzo Plus something worth investing in?

I would say the logical solution would be to make EVERYTHING modular. The core experience is your experience. Still have the three things listed up there, sure, but have them as modular items to build your own Monzo Plus. That way, you don’t end up paying for things you don’t need or want.

Something I definitely WOULD add to my Monzo Plus experience is cashback on bills. Natwest did this at £2 per month, so a similar offering from Monzo Plus would be perfect.

Other things I’d like to see are house insurance, travel insurance, phone insurance, that kind of thing.

The most important takeaway from this is to take your own advice. Don’t charge £3/6 for features that people don’t want, and if they do want these features, have them as bolt-ons, like everything else that is being planned.

To summarise in one sentence - let Monzo Plus actually be something that let’s you pay for the things you actually value, as per your own Monzo Plus blog post.

Thanks for reading.

Well that’s just an example, anything else would be cool.

I’ve taken time to reflect on this, and it would certainly be interesting to see how many people of those who joined the waitlist have actually signed up.

I’m beginning to feel as though the £400/month increased ATM withdrawals could have at least been incorporated into the base fee. I’m not sure even that would have improved things.

I admit that this is early days, and I’m happy to see what’s to come, but it really doesn’t represent value for money. As other people have suggested, perhaps the totally Pick’n’Mix offering might have been better, and would have definitely set Monzo aside from the rest of the pack.

At the end of the day £36/year (or realistically £72/year) for a different coloured card and the promise of things to come really doesn’t install confidence in someone who has committed to 12 months.

Card - I’d have but I don’t wanna pay for it and I use Apple pay anyway.

monzo.me url - I am guessing it would have to follow the same rules like now so I won’t get the one I want.

Swag - Not really for me I mean Monzo were very kind enough to send me a T-Shirt and stickers the other year but I don’t wear it out so would be a waste.

Events - All the events ever held have been straight after work and tbh I would have gone back in the day when the forum wasn’t so frosty but now… well no chance.

Travel Money - I use card and if I need cash I just use my Euro/AED account

What would I like to see?

Cashback I guess other than that I don’t think there is anything that is worth paying a bank for that I would actually need.

If we were able to get perks like free travel lounge useage or VIP entry to events any fun stuff like that or 2 for 1 meals out like Three’s Wuntu (has been mentioned before) then maybe.

Try looking at what the mobile networks and British Gas offer just coz.

I think offering cash back would be a good feature - this is offered on my Santander card (albeit at no extra cost). It does sometimes make me think, why should I use my Monzo card for this purchase when I could be getting 10% cash back e.g. one of the offers the other week was for Starbucks

Is it any monzo url?

  1. A no deal Brexit.
  2. Less idiots gluing themselves to things in London.
  3. Acquittal of Soldier F.

And/Or an account which offers scalable perks, which are useful and add value (much like my post). Device insurance, cashback offers, disposable virtual cards and access to tailored products (S&S ISA etc).

To be honest I think this will grow and become a good offering. I will not be signing up just yet though!
