Monzo Plus - what would you like to see?

I said that right at the top… :see_no_evil: I’m all confused why its called Monzo Plus but haho… not my product…

There seems to be a divide of some sort between the two (Marketplace and Plus):

Well… now I am even more confused… there will be a separate Marketplace but then sometimes Marketplace items will be in Plus… it all sounds very confusing to me and over complicated for something that can be simple… I guess I will just wait and see.

Is it for 12 months, or until later this year?

Well, this got me back on the forum…

I used to enjoy participating here, then life got too busy and I just stopped. Truth is, I was very happy with Monzo and trusted that good decisions were being made…

I’ve made my husband sign up, we got a joint account, he started to love Monzo as much as I have. He’s recently spoken about going #FullMonzo. I’ve been proud to recommend this amazing bank to people.

Today, this announcement appeared on Facebook and I had to click immediately through to the forum to see if I’d misunderstood. Surely, this wasn’t Monzo?

Seems it is. Asking people to pay £3 per month (going up to £6 per month) for nothing of any real value. Nothing that improves life in any way, financial or otherwise? I’m confused.

Monzo has always seemed to be about fairer banking offerings, better products, better value for money, supporting people to become more aware of - and in control of - their spending. And yet, they’re now asking their customers to essentially throw their money away. And no, we don’t have to pay or be involved, but it is amazing that they’re trying to promote this as a good thing.

And when people have asked for further details or clarification in this thread, the Monzo response seems to be that there are no further details. They expected this to be a success? They really considered it to be a good idea?

“Here’s a bin. Why not throw £3 into it every month, just for fun? And it gets even better, soon you’ll have to throw £6 per month, instead!”

Monzo, I love my bank account and all of the amazing features, but this makes me worry about the direction being taken. Is this a small bank growing too big and becoming just like the others?

£6 a month, for a custom link and a different colored card? You have got to be kidding.

I remember a thermostat company who made that promise… #tado

But I signed up to be notified on launch to see if anything changes, that doesn’t mean I’ll be paying up as I’ve very critical on what they’re offering here.As far as I’m aware it doesn’t automatically set you up.

I don’t have the waitlist option showing

I’ve noticed there are quite a few people who have just joined the forum today just to comment on this

Same.

Well after reading 250+ posts its obvious that Monzo Plus in its current state isn’t value for money - suppose we better watch this space and hope Monzo release additional features…

I’d agree if that was what was on the table but behind all the shouting, this isn’t the offer either now or in the future.

As best I can interpret, it’s £3 pcm for that initially with the rate lasting for a year (with more stuff being added to the package as the year goes on). Then it rises to £6 pcm after the year for whatever the full package then looks like. Extras on top of that will also be available.

That’s what’s been said so far along with a caveat that it may grow and change as time goes on.

This isn’t solely aimed at you @Eden. Your views are shared by a few here and they definitely have some value but…

You can say this first iteration is half baked and doesn’t offer any value, or that it’s worthless in its current state, but the fact is monzo has previously tested the £3 model. They’ve obviously found it to be successful if they are rolling with it with a view to add more value to it down the line.

If every comment in this thread was from separate individuals opposing this rather than the same people repeating themselves they’d still be vastly outnumbered by those that have signed up.

The 2,000 people who have signed up have seen some sort of value, just because you haven’t doesn’t mean it’s worthless to everyone.

Also monzo aren’t making people pay to do QA, people are able to make their own choices. If anyone doesn’t want to pay for the current offering they simply don’t buy it. The QA process will include the amount of people who don’t find this attractive. Certainly everyone should say their piece and share their views but maybe set the pitch forks down at the same time.

So if this doesn’t float your boat, fine. Wait and see if something you do see value in comes along further down the line.

As for my views, I don’t see any point jn signing up as things currently stand. But if everyone is speculating I’ll throw my hat in the ring too…

If £3 is the cost of admission into a monzo plus that can offer me great insurance quotes or other products at great prices then I’m all for it. While a lot of people are jumping to the worst conclusions I’ll presume the best, for all I know the insurance or other add ons could be offered at cost and the £3 entry fee is what monzo gets to keep.

Definitely think that the features are very minimal for so little in return. I hope that the feature list is added to and the price is kept the same. Can’t see many signing up in it’s current form.

Not sure that’s right.

“You can then choose to pay more to add custom features like travel insurance and travel money (£400 fee-free withdrawals abroad and emergency cash when you’re away if you need it). Just like with the core features, we’ll continue to introduce more and more all the time!”

Seems like it’ll be more than £6 for extra features. Unless I’m missing something, or it’s not worded well.

Tristan was clear that the £3 was reduced price for reduced value offering so the implication is clearly that the £6 full value will be for the full value offering.

Extra money for extra features will then sit on top of that but until we know what the base features are…

Nobody has signed up, people joined a waitlist I believe. Let’s see how many actually pay and commit to a minimum term?

The problem with people is that if you give them a shiny new feature and ask them to “sign up for updates”, then they likely will sign up to receive updates. There is no guarantee that signing up to updates is an indication that someone thinks the feature is value for money - I signed up to be in the know about what Monzo are going to offer, it doesn’t mean I will be taking out this offer.

Then they need to reword the blog post, as myself and several friends have both interpreted it as such. Listing out the core services, saying it’s £3 going to £6 and then additional services will cost extra doesn’t make it sound the way you’ve described.
