I don’t see a reason to get it either, but I am in the camp that firmly believes people can spend their money how they see fit!
The core package is missing one key thing - more custom app icons. If it unlocks more of then, I’d be in.
I agree, the pro-level thing should (IMO) be in the settings anyway. It’s just if I’ve got to pay for PLUS to get it, then I would
I was in two minds about customer service too, but I guess it’s food for thought
Hey Alex, it looks like deeplinks aren’t working from the forums. If you’re able to copy and paste monzo://monzo_plus_signup to another app that can render non-HTTP links (e.g. Slack), it should work
Maybe I’m not really explaining myself well. Literally people can spend their money however they like.
But if Pret started charging £3 a month entry into their restaurants in addition to the food, while I wouldn’t pay it, I would still form an opinion that it’s a bad business model and vocalise that if they asked me “What do you think?”.
Just saying “Well if you want to go ahead” validates these money-grabbing ideas. In reality people probably will sign up for this, so yay for Monzo making money, but at a cost (I believe) of some of the ethics that I genuinely love about the bank until this point.
Ok so my wish list
- Keep my “investor” stamp on plus card
- Flight upgrade offers
- Lounge access
- Reward points/cash back auto add back to account
- Plus customer only higher saving interests
- Investment assistance through chat
- Exclusive travel dinning shopping offers
- All the normal plus perks
So ideally for both of us Monzo+ starts as a blank sheet.
If you want the card colour package etc you can add it in for £3 a month.
If you want travel insurance add it in, the package becomes £10
If you don’t want the card package and you only want travel the package becomes £7 p/m
Is this the solution?
A couple of months ago Monzo asked people to provide user sensing on monzo plus and most of the comments in this thread match the feedback I provided. I’d love to know what the others surveyed said to suggest launching was a good idea.
I don’t understand why the product has launched with a range of novelty items like coloured cards and nothing of substance.
There’s nothing here of any value to an individual that would justify an ongoing cost rather a one off fee. Even at £3 per month.
Very disappointing.
For reference, I haven’t gone full monzo yet and pay for a packaged account with Halifax so in theory I’m a prefect customer for Monzo Plus.
That’s a basic essence of it yes.
You know what that is?
Monzo Marketplace
(Though I personally still wouldn’t pay £3 a month for a card - not per month for that kind of one-time product - I still think thats not moral to do).
I’m torn. On today’s announcement I agree with most folks here that £3 is too much and £6 is bonkers. I want to believe that the future of Monzo+ will be much more than today’s announcement and so it will be good value in future, and that this is a massive “Agile” esque release an MVP and see if it sticks kind of play. I guess time will tell. As an investor and #FullMonzo customer, I hope they get this right for both my personas.
A lot of customers want a different card. Maybe there should be a one-off fee for this? £15 for a different card till it expires, plus a fee (cost plus a bit) to replace it?
Well me neither but those that want to can.
I’d be interested in seeing what exactly the actual cost of these things are.
Charging customers for a new card is absurd given that it’s a pretty basic and free(!) feature of almost every other notable bank.
Do you have a source for the banks that do free custom card replacements?
Off the top of my head, Barclays offer free custom card replacements (edit: here’s a source).
Anymore?
Continuing the discussion from Monzo Plus - what would you like to see?:
I’ve just signed up to comment on this, as it seems utterly bonkers.
I think you forget that your rivals are watching your mistakes. It won’t be long until starling offer a plus account which actually has a plus side to it!
For £3 a month, I’d like to see a preferential interest rate on all ‘savings’ (pots, ISA, whatever) as the absolute minimum alongside the other ‘benefits’. Bearing in mind that for that kind of fee with major banks you would receive some form of cashback alongside interest on balances.
For £6 a month this would have to include all of the above and some form of insurance, or an actual benefit of some kind that is useable in the real world. Maybe faster customer support services.
Frankly £72 a year for a URL and a card is shameful.
Train stations charging for toilets is crazy too but folks pay it
True for some people these days but for the majority they want value for money. If £3/6 a month is value for money for something that adds zero value then crack on and spunk away that money.
I’m in the same boat here. I use my Monzo- account for most of my DDs and everyday spending. I have even moved across most of my savings from Nationwide.
However, the benefits of Flexplus will keep me there until I can get similar capabilities through Monzo. If/when that happens I’ll switch completely.
