Monzo max - don't send me a new card

Please stop forcing people to receive a new card when they signup to Monzo max. It’s very wasteful. I don’t use a physical card. I only want it as a backup. Sending me a new one is environmentally and sustainably bad. Please make this an optional request and by default don’t send it.

Just dismiss the notification.

Banks, disappointingly, don’t care.

There’s an option to dismiss the nudge. I accepted the nudge in a hurry and got sent a disappointing quality card for Perks. Decided to continue to use my embossed hot coral card for standard account no problem.

Have they changed this?

Last time I signed up for a paid account the new card was optional.

It seemed mandatory - if it was optional it wasn’t obvious when tapping through the flow.

But it should default to no wasteful new card. It’s pointless unless someone really wants it. I don’t know anyone who carries a card about with them.

Millions of people.

We’re a very long way from cards not being the default. We’re only just at paperless by default stage!

I didn’t say “who carries a card with them?”. I said I don’t know anyone who does anymore. And we’re almost all Monzo primary bank account users.

It’s just a request I think that a business like Monzo should look into for tech/cost/environmental reasons.

Default to no new card (when your old card still works fine) unless you specifically press a button to request one. Not defaulting the other way on a multi step process.

As I recall, there was a “Skip” button at the bottom of the screen.

The opposite of what I’m suggesting. Instead of an out of the way “skip” button with a big shiny “continue” button…do a big shiny "i don’t need 1 thanks” button and a small “please send me a wasteful new card” button at the bottom.

Some might throw a hissy their physical doesn’t align to their app card.

I don’t disagree with your suggestion, but I guess that Monzo would rather leave it to the customer to skip the new card than deal with the “where is my new card” queries.

I think you’re really over-egging the amount of people who don’t need/want a new card.

Yes, lots of people pay via contactless on the phones etc, but you still see most people pay with a card. Or a card stuck in the back of their phone case. People want that card.

This community is a collective of nerds who are keen on new technology and the wallet thread always has people posting pictures of the cards they carry with them daily.

I usually have my wallet with me, sometimes I don’t, but I’d always want the option to take that card with me.

I pay by GWallet and always have a few cards on me in case my phone fails, which could happen. If you don’t want a card for sustainability issues, that’s fine. As stated above, no physical cards won’t happen anytime soon. After all cheques still exist (with some banks) and that’ll continue for the older generation. BTW, I was offered a payment from a well established Insurer yesterday and they offered me a cheque as an option (receipt within 14 days).

I think at this point in Europe and a lot of Asia, you can pretty much go without a card.

Europe is all contactless, India has UPI, China has Alipay/WeChat Pay.

That’s already >1/4th of global population covered by contactless (mobile based) payments.
