Was just reading through an article on the GB News website and saw a Monzo advert?

What are people’s thoughts on this? I know the likes of Hope Not Hate have persuaded many others to drop their adverts on what many would describe as a divisive polarising channel.

Also… you were reading GB News. Arguably the best way to hit a website you don’t like is… to not use it. I’ve never once been on GB News.

You are absolutely right - I think Monzo should offer a bank account to Vladamir Putin, Kim Jon Un and many others as soon as they are able to. /s

In all seriousness, where brands advertise reflects on them. Does Monzo really want to be associated with GB News and the “Right Wing” crowd: if so, I can imagine their customer base rapidly disappearing (I suspect the majority of Monzo’s existing customer base are more “left wing” given Monzos prior support of trans and disabled people: the exact ones the “right wing” press demonise).

The ads looks like they come through https://www.taboola.com/ not a direct Monzo partnership.

Surely having the far right using monzo is a good thing, so monzo can keep an eye on them and make sure they aren’t doing anything wrong.

Could this be just a personalised Ad section, where GB News offer targetted Ad space to Ad agencies who then feed it with target ads, linked (more or less) to you personally? (aka - Monzo has paid an ad agency and the ad agency has bought ad space(s) to target visitors to all the websites in their portfolio, which have embedded targeted ad spaces)

That’s exactly where my thoughts went to as well. It’s typically how these types of campaigns are setup, to target those who already have shown interest in what you’re trying to promote.
