DAN - DO NOT ERRONEOUSLY MERGE THIS WITH ANOTHER THREAD. This issue only occurred after the latest update, i.e this morning. Not last September (or earlier). It’s a new bug for the latest version of Monzo. I’m reporting it because it’s new. Please fix it. Don’t ignore it or sweep it under the carpet by garbling it with another similar (and similarly ignored, it seems) issue.
Issue: The app icon now appears as an all white M. The customise options still show the multicoloured one as default and there’s no all white option available to select anyway. Tried to reselect the standard default multi coloured one but the icon still appears as white after restart. All other icons appear as selected. When I try to select the default one, it then shows the white one in the pop up.
Let me try to make this as clear as possible to avoid any confusion:
In September, Apple released iOS18 which added “Dark Mode” icon functionality, however it required app developers to add a Dark Mode icon to their app in order to take advanage of it.
Monzo have ONLY JUST added this icon to the latest public release, so if you use Dark Mode on your phone (which you are according to your own shared screenshots), then you will use the Dark Mode icon.
This will only apply when using the “Default” icon set. Switching to the alternatives means you don’t want the default and so won’t see the Dark Mode icon.
This is not a bug. If you don’t like the white icon, your options are:
It is a bug. It’s something that can be fixed but hasn’t been fixed or implemented properly. I’ve used dark mode for years so this sort of issue comes up periodically when developers simply can’t be arsed to go about getting the code sorted. So yes, it is a bug because it doesn’t work as it should.
If you set your Home Screen icons to light mode, the Monzo icon will revert to the “normal” icon. It changes to dark mode when you have dark icons set on your Home Screen (which you currently do). Other apps do this too.
I selected the default icon as shown in the customise section, but it doesn’t actually show the icon that subsequently appears. If it showed the dark mode icon in the customise section, that would be understandable. They just haven’t bothered to make the necessary changes.
I have used dark mode for years and am fully aware of how it works, and of how app developers are often neglectful of the detail. This is something that has only happened following the latest update from Monzo so it has only occurred as a result of something they’ve done/not done to the app rather than something I have done. The customise section no longer reflects what is actually available.
You’ve posted two topics and are getting very aggressive about something that isn’t a bug. Multiple people have explained it to you and yet you’re still going.
