Back to where this started. I really like the idea of the app changing colour when below a certain balance. It would be great if this would let me set the balance limit. First Direct sends me a text when my balance is below a limit I set and this is really useful, particularly on a joint account.
If the colour change warning also took Into account DDs and SOs that are due to come out in the next 48 hours that would be even more helpful

Unfortunately I don’t think can be done automatically these are apparently apples rules for changing app icons.
“users must manually change the images from an app prompt or settings menu. Apple in its developer guidelines prohibits apps from changing customizable icons without user request, further noting that any modification must be accompanied by a pop-up confirmation pane.”
Would like both iterations that have been mentioned here though if the rule above didn’t apply.

If it were possible to do this, I think I’d want to be able to specify my own triggers for the colour changes. It would also be good to be able to define date ranges associated with colour changes related to the balance. If my account is under a certain amount on the 10th of the month I want to know because my rent payment would fail. But after the 14th, my “red alert” could be much lower because there wouldn’t be a hefty rent payment due.
I don’t believe that iOS has the ability to change icon based on dynamic information such as, in Monzo’s case, a bank balance. As for Android, I’m not aware of the way the OS works, but I suspect it is probably a similar case. However, I still feel it would be a nice little touch to be able to choose the look of the app icon purely based on user preference. This feature has been around since iOS 10.3 for iOS (I believe).
For example:
- Different colour background
- Specific unlocks for alpha/beta/investor such as a fold on a corner with a specific letter or colour
- Monzo card mascot
I know there is already a thread here but I felt that this was something different as it is for a manual choice as opposed to an automated change.

Another great idea from the Monzo community. Looking forward to being able to change the app icon.
Still really like the idea of colour change linked to balance. That would be a winner.
