I regularly have 3 different transaction types with BT - each with their own unique merchant info at the bottom. All used to just show as “BT”, which was fine (not perfect), and I tagged certain transactions to make filtering them easier. They all now show as “BT Building” which is non-sensical for 2 out of the 3 transaction types I have with BT (I don’t think it should be what the 3rd transaction type shows as either, but at least I can see where whoever submitted that is coming from).
Why someone would approve all BT transactions to now show as “BT Building” I don’t know.
Totally agree names and locations all over the place, logos missing or not being updated, merchant strings not being looked at when submitting updates and if things do get updated it’s half baked I’m rather upset that it’s constantly declining at this point.
Whats wrong with iTunes exactly?
Apple may have killed the brand off as a moniker on Mac/iOS but its still iTunes on PC and more importantly people still call it iTunes and know what it is. If I go to an apple store/order from apple online I would expect apple but my iOS etc purchases arent the same so iTunes albeit the old brand is great for my because I know what the transaction is. Thats the whole point of this information, to make it clear to most people who/where they ordered which iTunes does.
In a years time when people stop remembering iTunes then maybe but I think there needs to a difference between the 2. Saying that I dont know if apple purchases from their stores/physical delivery count as iTunes as well, I would hope not.
Those were up until September part of the iTunes branding.
I would love it if Apple put through subs with a different tag so they could look different from ad hoc purchases but at least with it called iTunes and not Apple I know it’s a iOS/Mac/iTunes for windows purchase and not an Apple online store purchase.
Maybe if Apple store had separate branding it may be better to figure out but my main point is even though Apple doesn’t use the iTunes brand except for windows many people associate it still with those types of purchases which means calling it that is good for the end user as they then know what it’s for rather than having to query it. It may not be completely on brand with Apple but then most don’t track branding changes closely so my folks don’t know about the change at all.
Merchant data corrections to me are about adding clarity not necessarily being on brand with what the company is doing now. It’s one thing to update an icon but changing all those future transactions would lead to a lot of confusion. Maybe call it Apple/iTunes as a title may help.
Same with creative cloud. I like it’s called creative cloud so then I know exactly what it is I ordered in the feed rather than generic adobe.
It doesn’t really make sense for a product to be referred to by a deprecated name, nice as it would be if my supermarket receipt could say I bought Opal Fruits, a Marathon bar, a bottle of Jif cleaning fluid, and some Oil of Ulay for my hands.
That is not like for like. It’s not like each time you buy on iOS Apple says confirm your purchase from Apple since that’s the generic name we use now not iTunes that’s have for the last 10 years. Buying a physical product means you see the new branding before purchasing. Apple put a foot note on iOS (and they didn’t even change windows, it’s still iTunes brand) saying instead of it being in iTunes app it’s now in music/tv etc and each time you buy it’s not exactly enforcing this change which is why the majority of people won’t have a clue it’s changed at all unlike picking up a physical product. When they change brands of those products as well they risk people not knowing what it’s called now and not buying it unlike iOS where you just use it regardless of what Apple decides to call it. On iOS there is no new learning process for the new brand unlike changing the name on the wrapper.
I am all for calling the transaction Apple/iTunes initially though to aid the feed.
I’m sure some people still use iPods too but that doesn’t mean Apple will keep making them. No point trying to hold onto something that is being intentionally phased out, whether that’s now or further down the line.
Further down the line is literally the point, until the knowledge of the change is widespread (we on are not a great sample) don’t change it or rename it to Apple/iTunes initially to introduce the upcoming change.
There are nearly zero negatives other than semantics right now but the change could lead to a lot of confusion. Monzo could introduce an expanded description in the transaction like atm withdrawals to help in the future though.
I’ve got the same issue, can’t screenshot because I’m on my PC but the data at the bottom of my transaction that’s showing as Avion now is “J D WETHERSPOON PLC Watford GB”, same as it’s always been
