Why should it? I’m happy with the default!

Set up Monzo for my son, he’s actually excited, certainly compared to opening his first bank account with Nationwide! He’s also excited he’ll have a true balance, and no pending transactions :weary:. BTW monzo mini would have been great branding!

Well done, Monzo

All set up now and money moved from Hyperjar (a fine free solution for the past few years) :money_mouth_face:

Card arrived in less than 24 hours! :rocket:

Is it possible to change ā€˜what they call you’ or whatever that option was? I’m coming up as ā€˜Dad’ but apparently that makes her feel old and wants ā€˜Daddy-o’ or something for pocket money.

From memory, when setting up the account, it informed you could change this name later. But I’ve searched and I can’t find it! Hopefully a planned update :soon:

Hiya! We’re working on a way to update these in-app, but in the meantime please drop me a DM with the details and we’ll get it sorted for you

It’s on the edge of the card as well. I can only assume the photo was taken aboard a ship.

Maybe it was taken on a 15 Pro Max

Not had a beer today. Hands aren’t steady.

I’ll try again when my Pixel 9 Pro XL arrives.

I have that tablecloth :thinking::grinning::rofl:

Mine still not arrived :pensive:

My daughter’s card arrived today a day after posting notification. The almost 5 year old had a right tantrum for 5 minutes that he didn’t also get one.

Activation by tapping on the back of the phone worked well.

I asked if she could remember the PIN and she was err no. At least it’s easy to get it in the app. Spending limits look good. I presume they can be temporarily be increased for a particular transaction if needed and then reduced again?

Without getting into the full discussion I had with my wife about adopting a joint surname when we got married, my surname is Mustermann*; my wife and children have the surname Smith Mustermann.

I signed up my daughter as Jane Smith Mustermann, but the system assigned the preferred name Jane Mustermann, and the name on the card as Jane S Mustermann.

Support have managed to change the preferred name, but it looks like they’ve issued a new card with the same name - when I asked about this, they said that we’ve hit a character limit, and are suggesting J Smith Mustermann.

A few thoughts…

  • This old thread says that there’s a 23 character limit for embossed cards (her name is 25, including spaces) - surely there’s space for more now cards are flat and printed?
  • other banks give you options of what you’d like displayed on your card before you order them
  • Rooster defaulted to first name only, which I think isn’t such a bad thing, especially for very young children.

Anyway, we’ll have a ponder about how best to fit her name in, but in the meantime are happy to have an account!

  • names have been changed

Disappointing. I was thinking ā€œwhat a great nameā€ :+1:t2:

There may well be more space on the card - the printing looks a little smaller than the old embossing, though it’s hard to tell without putting my card side by side with an old embossed one. But the computer systems behind the scenes are notoriously slow to catch up. I’d guess the limitatiion is more likely to be the database field that holds ā€œEmbossed nameā€ or whatever the field is called, which probably hasn’t changed in character count since the 60s.

So Kids Card transactions aren’t available on the Activity Feed.

Yet?

I believe that ā€˜Mustermann’ is the German equivalent of ā€˜A. N. Other’
