I suspect that the co servicing is just step one to merging the brands, so you might not have to put up with it forever.
Isnât the multiple brand part of some guarantee that in case the CMA demands Lloyds to down size, it would be easier to chop and change?
Halifax brand is more popular northward from the Midlands, maybe Lloyds brand can absorb Halifax but very unlikely BOS brand would go away north of the border. ![]()
Iâm not sure thatâs the case.
When Lloyds TSB was a thing, before Lloyds could buy Halifax, they had to lower their customer base, and just split a % of customers out.
It wasnât even sortcode based - even though most now start with a 7 at TSB, but some also had 3 at the start.
More Halifax closures announced this morning ![]()
For those with joint Lloyds accounts, what happens when one user sets statements frequently to say Quarterly, does it also set that for the other user or each user can set their own frequency?
Depends, Paper statement is set as account level, Digital statements individual preference
It is the digital ones I was referring to.
This is good to know as I like fewer statements and my SO wants them monthly.
Halifax Brand going ?
They tried to position the Halifax brand as more of a fintech competitor a few years back to try and get it to appeal to younger clientele. I donât think it worked particularly well and they gave up quite quickly though. Something needs to happen with Halifax, it doesnât look too good when theyâve been using 3 different logos (stripy X, solid X and dual colour X) for years. They used to say the reason for keeping it is that the customers were very different. Iâm not sure how true this is these days though, so they may have a long term plan to phase it out in places. Halifax is the stronger brand some things like for mortgages though.
Iâve noticed a few adverts for Lloyds at bus stops in Northern Ireland recently, mainly focusing on the app. They donât have a physical presence here (Halifax do). The odd Lloyds advert has snuck through on the telly before due to non-regional ads but never anything actually targeted locally. Iâm guessing now branches are less important and the Lloyds brand is really being pushed more it makes more sense to focus on the main Lloyds brand.
With Disney+ being added to Sky, it removes another reason to keep my Lloyds Premier account. Sky also allow you to pay to upgrade it as well.
Some people are extremely loyal to a bank and its brand, so while I can definitely see Lloyds merging branches to save costs and benefits from economies of scale, I doubt the Halifax brand is going.
I know personally a few people who only bank with Halifax and would be very upset if they were forced to move to Lloyds.
I have club Lloyds just for the odeon tickets, going to use those up in the next few weeks and then downgrade to a standard account.
Chase Protect will cover my needs from a paid account POV.
I joined Premier/Lloyds as my first UK bank account, but switched to Barclays Premier and have been happy there. Iâm currently not paying any money into my Lloyds account, so Iâm just paying the ÂŁ15 fee at this point for the odeon tickets and access to BUPA. I really should downgrade.
Iâm correct in saying downgrading doesnât void the ODEON vouchers once issued? I imagine the BUPA membership termination would be immediate however.
Iâve also been curious how strict Lloyds is about upgrading in the future to Premier if I already was Premier? I donât want to close the door too hard with Lloyds. I really wanted to like Lloyds but it was seriously hell with getting my transactions declined, rough support, 24h+ app lockouts, random fraud locks.
But if their app/website was the same, just green, their accounts remained the same, they could access them in the same way they could, customer service was provided the way it was previously, Lloydâs tone was more âhalifaxâ (which it is slowly becoming), they had access to some things that were âLloyds onlyâ previously etc. Essentially just a name change. Would they actually move away & who to without losing the Halifax things they previously liked? Or would they more likely just moan about it on Facebook for a few weeks before getting on with life.
Iâm sure LBG has done the maths on this several times already. I donât think Halifax as a brand will be going anywhere soon and I would imagine in the scale of things it costs very little to maintain it as a seperate brand, however I think there will be a point that, given how many they have, LBG will consolidate brands and we may see things like âHalifax Mortgages from Lloydsâ - a bit like Barclays used to do with Woolwich.
My feeling is that the brand âHalifaxâ will remain, something you have also mentioned and alluded to.
If Lloyds decided to discontinue the brand, which was possibly what some others suggested, I think some people would be unhappy about. Itâs just my opinion.
You are incorrect. People over on the MSE forum have reported that unused cinema vouchers are cancelled when you downgrade your account.
Thanks for the correction, glad I asked! Iâll hold off then on downgrading then.
Now..just need some good movies to release ![]()
You can upgrade to premier again, I get the option just canât justify it.
The odeon tickets do get cancelled, when that happens Iâm not sure, but it does happen.
Iâve toyed with Barclays, so quick question to save derailing, do they pay wages just after midnight or 2am ish?
Also, you mention about Club Lloyds tickets and also premier, do you have two accounts there? Or are they on the same one?
Agree
. The big
just gives a naturally negative feeling to it, thereâs very little room to improve the branding tbf, and I canât imagine people having too much fondness of Halifax unless they are from the North, especially from Yorkshire, or had the account since they were a kid.
Halifax has legacy being a mortgage lender for the working class etc. but Lloyds is pushing really hard with their branding and their mortgage is now looking more tempting than Halifaxâs, at least to me.
I was in the branch a few months back and used my Lloyds card for ID. They said I was the first person ever to have weighed in with a Lloyds card. And the last, because they closed that branch the following week.
