Remember it’s not the profit, but the recurring cashflow which for mobile is usually 18-24 months, this recurring cashflow can then be used to borrow against, the more free cash you have the better rates you can achieve
Me again, talking Klarna!
Two further membership perks have landed on the Max tier.
Livi on demand unlimited healthcare and GP appointments. Very similar to the Bupa offering and..
Voi - 4 x 15 mins of free rides each month
Also looks like Investments are coming as a tab for it has appeared. ![]()
Ahhh that’s not great, that could change.
Just searched and they’re a Swedish company.
also noticed that they operate across a lot of Europe. Tbh I’ve seen their bikes and scooters before.
New day, new feature.
They’ve only gone and added the mobile plan they just launched as a free perk for the Max plan. That’s just saved me £15 a month.
So your perks are now £30 for unlimited lounge access and the 1% cashback per month.
Yeah, along with the purchase and travel insurance.
The Times, headspace, class pass and audiobooks. I use all of them.
I use the dry cleaning credit every now and then
I also use the BlackLane credits for airport journeys
The GHA Discovery titanium membership has gotten me some very good upgrades in hotels
I’ll also be using Voi now instead of Lime bikes.
1% Unlimited Cashback is good but for £44.99 you need to spend a lot to make that back!
No one would sign up just for the cashback.
As per the above posts, there is a lot of other stuff included, such as an unlimited E-SIM.
Not something I’d consider but I can see why many people would. The plans offer good value.
Yeah I just see the cashback as a bonus.
it has huge benefit if you travel a lot, but also if you are already paying for some of the 17 subscriptions included.
you also get a weekly benefit which is normally a £10 credit for uber, uber eats and Sainsburys, free Odeon tickets etc
also Got a £300 hotel voucher
there is also the extended cash back up to 15% when you shop in the app
To be honest they are going over and above in order to entice customers.
12-18 months before it drops to nothing but a 10gb sim and 0.01% cashback on buying fish.
Max is an interesting product overall. At £540 annually it’s less than the £650 I’m paying American Express for Platinum so you can clearly see the segment of the market they’re targeting.
I think for me AMEX does hold slightly more value. Things like the dining credit and the hotel + car hire statuses, plus their lounge access extends beyond Priority Pass. My employer pays my phone bill anyway so an e-SIM holds zero value for me.
The only differentiator is the dine in credit. If you happen to use it
You also get global roaming included
automatic hotel, car hire status and alternative lounge access comes with Titanium GHA discovery and ASW.
I think they’ve been very clear that they are going head to head with Amex with this product. I think until they have a very good customer base they will maintain or improve further the perks. Of course, they could just drop it altogether, but I think the coverage is only going to increase with other aspects, current account, savings, investments, as in the US.
I’m ok with the copper coloured card, but annoyingly the US get an even better looking chromatic card for MAX!
Damn! they are also offering 30% off the monthly fee for the first three months.
They are definitely trying to steal that summer travel crowd!
This is actually one of my favourite benefits. We use all £400 every year without fail. Me and my wife like going to the types of restaurants covered, but we struggle to find the motivation to actually book and go. The benefit forces us to do these so I’m a big fan.
My employer pays for this. Wherever I am in the world, I can just use my phone like normal and I don’t pay a penny. Corporate life
.
I get that, and it’s a good perk, and clearly if you’re using it its making it well worth your while to stay with AMEX. I just know quite a few people who just don’t use it and would like alternatives.
Don’t get me wrong I used to love my Platinum, I just hated the fees and the price increases. I get way more benefit from Max.
My gym classes alone surpass the fee per month.
As for mobile, I too have that option, but I like to keep my work separate from my personal, for so many reasons.
I think it’s the psychology of an upfront annual fee vs a monthly as well. I think Amex would do very well to offer monthly fee payments.
Even if you are paying the exact same amount, it still feels like you are paying less.
Klarna pricing theirs monthly will attract some, I’m sure.
What is the cancellation period?
Can you get the card for the 3 month period and then cancel it without any problem fine from them.
yeah, I’ve asked about it, there is no minimum term period. Also, best way is just to downgrade rather than cancel, that way you keep the nice card.
But if anyone is signing up let me know I can refer you, and you’ll get an extra £10! ![]()
