Both. It has the same content (as far as I know). I really don’t understand how this demonstrates that at all. All 4 clearly refers to the on-demand and streaming platform, whether that be the app or website.
Channel 4 will soon refer to the channel, which is different to the on-demand and streaming platform also called Channel 4, which has content from channels that aren’t called Channel 4.
And it doesn’t bother me or anything, I just don’t see how they will do it.
Other than iPlayer, I’ve never heard anyone say anything about ITVX or All4 or anything from a specific channel. And definitely not keeping up with the rebrands. It really doesn’t matter.
“Have you seen X? It’s on iPlayer/catch up” and people probably use iPlayer when it’s nothing to do with the BBC.
In my mind it’s still called 4oD and I’m battling with a painfully slow broadband connection to get the Kontiki client to download a show before I can watch it…
‘Catch up for free on 4oD’ is ingrained into my mind the same way ‘Aygo by Toyota sponsors T4’ is.
They seem to be in a mixture right now. The app on Android is called Channel 4 in Google Play, but the app is still All 4, apart from one bit which says “New on Channel 4”…
…which I’m sorry, demonstrates the issue with this brand as most people will think that refers to the channel, not the streaming service, but some of those shows never aired on Channel 4. If I was looking for a More 4 show or E4 show that had recently aired, I would ignore that section.
It seems the website and app have actually updated now. I’m not really a fan of the green colour they’ve chosen. The cyan and yellow were much better imo.
I have seen some people explaining why they would want Channel 4 to be their streaming name and I do understand it. Otherwise, they are at risk of All 4 being their most-seen brand as streaming becomes more popular and linear TV declines. They obviously don’t want that, so are trying to make sure Channel 4 remains the brand that people see.
I doubt BBC iPlayer will ever need to do this considering the BBC has many more services than Channel 4 so iPlayer will likely just become their main TV brand. I think ITVX also works well as ITV is still clearly in the name.

They could have simply done what channel 5 did which is call their app by both names… it’s called ‘My5 - Channel 5’. Which nicely differentiates it and keeps the association with the channel.
Channe; 4 has updated how they advertise their shows. They just say “xyz on Channel 4/ E4. Stream weekly or watch live at 9pm”
Only slight confusion in the logo for both the channel and the streaming service being the same. They have essentially stopped saying what the streaming service is called which I guess makes sense.
To be honest, I think they’ve done a good job of this and will help them solidify their C4 brand as streaming becomes more popular. However, their idents are utterly boring and are just the logo moving on some colourful background.
Hardly dramatic. Just an opinion, and one that doesn’t mean I thought they were dumb for doing so. I always assumed there was some logic to it, but based on what we knew at the time, I didn’t understand it, like most people.
Hardly dramatic. Based on the views I saw, essentially no one understood it.
Again, hardly dramatic. Just an opinion.
So no, I wasn’t dramatic. I just gave my opinion
If anyone else has a problem with what I comment, rather than disrupting the conversation in front of everyone, you can either ignore it and accept that I am allowed to give opinions, or PM me. There’s no need to be so dramatic in front of everyone.
