Introducing Monzo Flex – a better way to pay later 🚀

@TomMills Any updates on Flex with shared tabs/bill splitting from the most impatient customer ever? Going on holiday and realised that all the spending I am going to put on flex is going to have to be manually split! :grimacing:

We’re starting to roll out defaults to anyone that doesn’t already have it

We hit a few technical snags when testing it, but think we’ve got to the bottom of it today :crossed_fingers:. We need to get the changes into an app release, which is realistically at least 2 weeks away.

When are you on holiday?!

Now  so too late for this occasion, but thanks for the update. Appreciate the work you guys are doing to get it up and running!

Notified about picking a flex plan which came through on my Apple Watch. It would be great if I could pick a plan via the Watch notification.

Hi - i ordered a Flex card for a recent holiday, so just getting used to it. A few suggestions which may have been mentioned already but…TLDR

  • Would be good to be able to pay off from JA
  • Would be good to be able to make all repayment options available as a default, for example pay over three months. At the moment, you can only fix it at one month - otherwise you have to choose for every purchase.
  • Would be AWESOME if you could earn airmiles. This is the only thing stopping me using Flex in the UK. Would happily pay a fee for this, or just bundle it in Premium.

All of them or just the last one?

Just the last one.

Middle one is unlikely too.

Three answers to three questions.

Quite a few people have asked for payments from Joint Account, but honestly, there’s far more demanded features for JAs still missing.

Lots of people have asked for all the options as defaults, but, frankly, it’s not in Monzo’s commercial interest to do it, so it’s unlikely to ever appear.

And, at least in Revels’s opinion, Flex will never be a reward card - not least because it’s already a 3 months interest free card, if you choose to use it that way, and has a generally very competetive interest rate otherwise. (At least, it does for me compared to my other cards.)

Also, which airmiles would they give? I’ll take Star Alliance ones that can be added to my United loyalty programme please (and I’m UK based). There are way too many schemes for any of them to be universally popular, so they’d need a great deal with a partner for it to be worth them offering an affinity reward, and I just can’t see that happening.

Edit: typo fix

This has probably already been requested, but…

I’d love the ability to flex payments made via a pot. I keep doing this because I keep my cash in a pot and spend via a virtual card… but I just made a big purchase without thinking and I could’ve totally flexed it :sob:

I’d also love a way to view all flexible transactions together instead of going through all my transactions…

You can. You can’t on virtual cards from a pot.

@TomMills @daniel

Is there going to be any work in the near future linking Flex with YNAB? I use this card daily and it’s annoying to manually input transactions when the current account auto syncs

If YNAB uses the open banking API then it should be able to see it already. It works fine in Emma.

@TomMills Have you had any reports of issues with AirBNB and Flex? My mum just contacted me to say that she has booked several times before with Flex and it has worked fine, but today she is trying to book and it keeps declining. I also tried to book a different AirBNB yesterday and had the same issue, even tried with my partner’s Flex and that also declined.

Are there any plans to allow a longer term than 12 months on Flex?

I know Tymit do up to 36 months which is handy to spread the cost on larger purchases, just Tymit’s APR is extortionate!!

I just tried it again…Flex is not recognised. The current account does link. Hoping there’ll be a solution

I have the 24 month Flex payment option, with 19% APR:

Unfortunately this is out of our hands – it’s down to YNAB and their Open Banking provider, we are providing all the data and other services like Emma work fine.
