Introducing Monzo Flex – a better way to pay later 🚀

I’d bet most people don’t even know what S75 is.

What do Amex add S75 like protection to?

Use the card (physical or virtual) you get it… don’t use the card and you don’t. It’s pretty simple IMO…

No other credit provider says it has S75, as 1) it’s a statutory right so it’s a given. 2) it must cost a lot if people kept claiming against it - not saying that is an excuse.

Amex will always try and go down the chargeback route first. You have to keep saying you want to make a claim under s75.

Curve do a similar thing with their cards. They offer the protection but no legal right to it. Not sure if it’s like for like with S75

Curve Customer Protection is not the same as Section 75.

Curve claim it is “similar” to Section 75 though last time I looked it has some big differences/weaknesses including the fact that

  • it is discretionary
  • only covers the amount paid on the Curve Card;
  • has a shorter time frame to submit claims.

I think many people know the general concept that “you are protected when you use your credit card for large purchases” without knowing it’s called ‘Section 75’.
But of course there will also be a large section of people who have no idea that any such protection exists.

There is such little knowledge about it.

People think paying their asda shop delivery on their credit card is covered/protected.

Actually nope, unless every single item on that list is £100+.

My (slight) concern is that Flex is reported to CRAs as ‘revolving credit’ (i.e. BNPL) rather than a credit card. Some lenders count that against you when they see it on your credit record.

Credit cards and overdrafts are also revolving credits.

Revolving credit just means you keep the limit as you pay it off.. i.e. you can use it again without applying

My point is that it’s not classed the same as credit cards and overdrafts on at least two of the CRAs.

It doesn’t really matter what they think.

I’m fairly certain all banks care about is seeing that it’s paid.

Whether it’s a credit card or a buy now pay later form of credit, just pay it and look good :sunglasses:

Not sure they have much reporting on it to make a bias due to klarna not historically being reported? Sure it was only ever a soft search credit check.

Thinking that Flex Credit should also have maps to ID where the transaction occurred more easily like how the normal debit card spending has this as well

just a question…ive asked on Mozo app chat but been waiting since friday for a response.

So wanted to use my Flex card for a online purchase…Cost was £590 and keep getting a error message about not processed etc…card details all entered OK
Have enough credit limit etc…

So instead i used my Main Monzo card and then flexed it.

now am i doing this right ? How come i couldnt use the flex card to pay for the transaction

thanks

So if you buy direct from flex do you not get maps like a normal transaction? I don’t use it but expected that if I did, you would.

So if that is the case I’d also like to see that if I were to consider re-joining Monzo and using Flex as my Credit Card

I had similar recently. Just kept failing when I was trying via the website. This was A&F, I doubt you’ve spent £590 there so unlikely to be the same place!

So I switched to my phone and used ApplePay and all was fine.

did you get a response as to why it failed…i had no in app messages about failed payment…
so kinda annoyed that its not woking the way it should…

No in-app message means it’s not getting to Monzo then most likely it’s the merchant erroring for some reason, could be any number of things.

I didn’t bother asking why, I just paid it with ApplePay and carried on with my day.
