About time I got something first! I thought I was quick to sign up to Flex but still waiting for that …
Question for @benstrak: what is the average of? That month’s spend? 12 months? All time?
It’s the average spend for each complete week within the month
Presumably in a future where we can schedule our own pay periods it will adjust to each full week within that period?
Or in future when we can hopefully see an annual view it will adjust accordingly?
Or am I getting ahead of myself
We will make sure the average fits whatever period might be shown on the graph
Any news on custom pay periods for trends?
No graph for me yet… but I’m hoping this fixes some of my issues with Trends which I’ve been meaning to write down for a little while.
As it stands, the monthly spend figure is not very useful for me. Partly because it doesn’t line up with my pay period so is enormously front-loaded, but also because I don’t feel the way my external credit card spending is counted is very helpful.
I think that’s a bit of a segue so external CC spending thoughts below:
Summary
When I spend £100 on X card on 5 November, I am not actually going to lose that money until around 6 or 15 December depending on which card I used.
If I want to see actual money out in a month then, I can categorise all external CC transactions as ‘transfers’. But this is awful in lots of ways as I then have to split the paying off my card transactions into a lot of different categories or make lots of different payments to line up with each original transaction. Both options involve a lot of faff, and if external transactions ever get proper enrichment (tags, notes, merchant history) then I’d have ruined categories for all these transactions.
So, currently I do categorise the original CC transaction, and then mark my paying off as ‘transfers’. But am still left with the issue of my spend per month always being off… because I see a difference between spending £50 on my Monzo and losing it now, and spending £50 on my Amex specifically so that I don’t lose it now. In a month where I spend more to pay off my CC bill at the start, I will of course/literally have to give myself less to spend throughout the month on my Monzo.
So I don’t know if there is a solution for this without it getting quite complex, but would be very nice for these CC transactions to not get ‘counted’ until I actually pay for them. I don’t want to turn off trends for them entirely as I’d like to know what I’m spending in a certain category across all accounts, but I would like them to ‘hit’ my spending more appropriately.
Guess will need to play around, but if the point is that I can focus more on average spending across multiple periods as opposed to this month’s spend, then I’m excited to get access. Anyone else got it yet?
Let’s see if we have a wider roll out on day 2.
Do you have the graphs?

I think categorising is less about money in/out and more about spending - what you spent when, and what on?
Technically no money leaves your Monzo account until a transaction settles 1-2 days later.
Although no money has left your Monzo account when you spend on Amex, you are not just looking at your Monzo account - you’re looking at your connected accounts together, so it’s accurate to record having spent that money?
The money leaving Monzo isn’t the trend, it’s when you’re spending it
I’m with you on that definitely.
My point was more that the focus of trends right now is the enormous ‘this month’ figure. So the what I spent when aspect feels quite off for me in the current implementation.
I’m sure others don’t even think of CC spend like this at all, and consider money spent the second the transaction’s done. So very aware this might just be me.
And yeah I’m not sure if there is a solution which keeps things accurate, but I’m hoping that the focus of trends changing to an average period spend makes this matter less to me.
No graph for me yet, which, considering this week’s spending, is probably for the best, to be honest
Same. They need to add this, pronto. But I don’t think it’s even on the formal roadmap, just in the “later” pile, maddeningly.
That’s an interesting view - I’d personally see it the opposite - and want to consider the money I spend on a CC as spent when I make the transaction.
From a cash flow management, I’d like to see the difference between “my money” and money owed (so like +£2000 in Monzo vs -£1500 debt owed on my CC, rather than net +£500)
But for all things category analysis I’m keen to know when the transaction was made, for the most part.
Will be interesting seeing the charts when they come
Yeah I completely get that too. Only really started thinking like this when looking at the trends monthly spend figure for me, as I’m nearly always using my CCs for deferred spend (or specific things like travel/accommodation) as opposed to just daily points gaining.
Seconded. I think Emma do this p well on their accounts screen with a total for ‘Current’ accounts as they call them and a total for ‘Cards’ - and then the overall net figure at the very top of the screen above the graph.

Still no charts for me yet
So when will we see the Plus features on Joint Accounts?
