Introducing Extra, Perks and Max

AMAZING! They listened! Thank you Monzo - I keep eyeing up HSBC Premier and now I can stop that!

Also great to be increasing the value of Max.

Ah, true. Need to run the numbers then.

Yeah exactly, if they offered (like I think Amex gold) 4 free passes a year then it would be fine

Premier is better in my opinion as it’s free.
RBS/Natwest Premier black is personally the better of the bunch but there’s a whole post about that lol

I know ultra does use dragon

I’m currently paying for Max but I’ve recently discovered that trends is fundamentally broken for me so I’m looking to cancel. I’ve got a railcard as one of the perks and the cancel screen doesn’t mention what happens to it? Does it cancel itself out or do I need to pay any fees for it?

(Edit) I tried finding a way to chat to somebody in the app but the option seems to have completely disappeared for me now

Never mind, I’ve found the T&Cs:

You may have to pay a fee

If you order a Railcard and then cancel before your next Max anniversary (every 12 months after the date you got Max) you’ll need to pay a fee to keep your Railcard based on how long’s left until your next Max anniversary. This works out at £1.92 a month.

Sorry for late reply, but worth saying the AA (not RAC) cover provided by Nationwide is the most generous among all the packaged back accounts going - for example I think uniquely it includes onward travel, so if you break down on your way to a holiday they’ll get you there and even sort out a hirecar for a couple of days while you’re there.

This was enough to get me to switch from Halifax Ultimate Reward to Nationwide FlexPlus last year.

If you value a decent roadside recovery then it’s a no-brainer, IMHO. I’ve just checked and the AA want £130 (specially discounted from £260) for similar cover for just one person for one year.

RBS/NatWest also include onward travel for their Platinum account AA cover

It does, so I see!

I personally wouldn’t touch Natwest group packaged bank accounts because their mobile insurance has an arbitrary max screen size which disqualifies the device I’ve used for the last 3 years. Also it’s so much more (and seemingly offers nothing in addition to FlexPlus) - still happy to endorse FlexPlus as a ‘no brainer’ option to anyone who values onward travel AA cover.

I think the mobile insurance for the entire family also is better with nationwide compared to the natwest platinum - from what i can tell it only covers the account holder

Yes, Nationwide’s is unusually generous in this regard - normally only account holders are protected (unless another charge is paid).

I am flying tomorrow and in the SAS (airline) app I can add lounge access in Denmark for £24.

From what I understand Monzo Max offers “discounted” lounge access for £24, which of course is not the case here.

Are other lounges around the world generally more expensive?

Is the SAS lounge an airline lounge (as opposed to an airport one, so something like Aspire)?

Airline lounges are far better but access generally can’t be bought. Airport lounges are usually quite grimy and full and “normal” cost is ~£50 per person but people usually get it for cheaper via schemes like Monzo Max or packaged holidays.

Yes it’s an airline-specific lounge.

Thanks for the summary, it’s good to know. First time I ever used a lounge was a few weeks ago (it was the same SAS lounge) as it was included in my ticket, and I quite enjoyed the free food, drink, and the peace & quiet.

Tomorrow’s flight ticket doesn’t include lounge access but I can add it for £24, making schemes like Monzo Max or Revolut etc seem useless for this purpose.

Indeed if you always fly SAS and the option to add lounge access is there for everyone. Most airlines don’t allow you to pay for it, but attach it to the highest tier(s) of their loyalty programme.

So for the vast majority, paying for airport lounges is the only option.

Cancelled Max, get this at the top of my screen.

Why would I crave such?

Next to no airlines allow you do buy access to their own lounges so I wouldn’t rely on this unless you only ever fly SAS.

What was the reason behind canceling? Curious
