Nationwide Flexplus vs Monzo Max

Hi,

I’ve been considering switching to Monzo Max instead of Nationwide FlexPlus. However, the price for family cover is £22 with Monzo, compared to £13 with Nationwide.

Today, I received an email stating that FlexPlus will increase to £18 from 1 December, which is still £4 cheaper than Monzo Max.

If Monzo were to match the £18 price of Nationwide’s plan, it would be an easy decision for me -and likely for others - to switch to Monzo.

What are your thoughts?

Hi. Welcome.

If you search any of the threads about Monzo Max, Nationwide is mentioned every 3rd post.

Only you can decide which is best for you. Monzo are not going to price-match.

Soft agree. I would probably do it but it’d essentially come down to a choice of either 52 sausage rolls or a gambled ‘easy route’ to future “Fairer Share” incentives (you can get it without FlexPlus, but FlexPlus was by far the easiest way of meeting critieria if it’s a good fit anyway).

This year didn’t count for FlexPlus alone, not sure why people keep saying this.

I never said it did, so I’m not sure why you’re taking exception!

I said it was the easiest route - which it is:

It has only one stipulation, which is automatically met by holding the account.

You still need £100 in savings/mortgage, but that one just ‘is what it is’.

My summary of this question is:

Nationwide use the AA, while Monzo use RAC (apparently the AA has better reviews, plus we have used Nationwide’s breakdown cover 3 times so far, all excellent experiences, with AA and without).
Nationwide cover both spouses/partners if you have a joint account wholly as well as independently, so each one of us can travel by themselves or together, same cover, same amount paid.
Nationwide have paid each one of us £100 two years in a row now, that covered the FlexPlus fee and also (theoretically) left money behind to cover next year’s too.

If my understanding is correct, so long as your partner is named on your Monzo Max Plan, then they are also covered, even if you aren’t travelling with them.

edit: sentence was confusing at first

Yes, they are covered with the extra £5/month, but can they call and make a claim for themselves? With Flexplus as a joint account you can.

I don’t think it needs to be a joint FlexPlus account so long as they’re named on the policy.

Am I correct in saying that Max has car hire excess cover and nationwide doesn’t ? If that is true and hiring a car abroad is your thing then Max is the better option. That is one thing that’s pushing me to change to max.

Looks like it. However, if you’ve any preexisting medical conditions, Monzo is a non runner.

Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a perfect combo :frowning:
