Introducing Extra, Perks and Max

Well, clearly there wasn’t. I nearly flagged it, but luckily I’m actually quite a nice guy. Sarcasm intended or not I would suggest you consider how it might be read.

I actually enjoyed the first part of the post and I agree with what you put. But also city life isn’t for everyone.

I think we can leave that there and move on, have nice evening

I find the most annoying part about the community is when you block/ignore/mute someone via their profile and then topics continually say ‘unread comment’ on them because they were the last post, which prevents me from blocking/ignoring/muting anyone.

There is so much in that paragraph that I’d like to correct, but I simply lack the energy to do so.

Have a good evening, Jo. :slightly_smiling_face:

Moving on…

Only if you were buying these anyway. Just adding the value of things you get doesn’t make it a money saver. If you never go to Greggs the value is £0 for you regardless.

It would be like me considering car recovery as a benefit. I don’t drive. I rarely get into a car. It’s never value for me because I will never use it and don’t need it. If you add that value to a bank account without considering the usage of it it’s a false economy.

There’s another practical reason why I wouldn’t want to get a Railcard via the Trainline app: the Family Railcard is for two adults, and if you buy it direct from the Railcard site you can load it on two devices - so you can both use it separately. The Trainline version only shows it on the account of the person who bought it. (I suppose the workaround is to both log in to the same account but it feels like an unnecessary faff.)

O2 Priority are doing codes for £10 Railcards this week though. Now I’ve done that I might buy myself some sausage rolls with the £20 I’ve saved.

The thing for me with packaged travel insurance is just the overall cost of it. Because I’m relatively young, healthy and I don’t travel to the US, there’s almost no amount of travel that could make it worth it. Single trip insurance for a week in Europe is like £5 -7, and insurance for my big trip next year (two weeks in Kenya) is £25 (which isn’t the sort of trip I do every year).

Even with a decent amount of travel over a year I won’t spend more than £50 on travel insurance and some years it’s more like £25. Single trip insurance is just so cheap.

Cost me £15 quid for a year of European cover with low excesses and higher coverage. Going to be difficult for packaged bank accounts to compete with that for me.

If I was doing a more adventurous trip further afield I’d just buy an appropriate level of cover before I went away. Rather than paying every month through my bank account.

Not even close for Europe. It’s the US which often costs the big bucks (because god forbid you end up in a US hospital paying US style hospital bills). If you aren’t going to the US frequently travel insurance can be really cheap.

Also depends on the cover you need of course. I’m okay with a pretty high excess for example.

Yes, it really isn’t as expensive as you might think. For a Family friend who we’ve taken abroad a few times, it’s around £15 a trip. Given we don’t go abroad all that often, I just pay for it as and when needed.

It’s also the reason I haven’t upgraded my HSBC CC, I could get free fast-track, or I could just pay around £25 a trip for it. This is always the balance with any ‘packaged account’ - the sum of the offers need to work out cheaper.

Monzo don’t help this perception by quoting an arguably better Travel insurance offer as a ‘comparison’ for how cheap it is with Max. If you search for a travel insurance policy for family members the same as what Monzo cover it’s no where near as expensive as they make out.

But then again, the convenience of having it all for one price is what attracts people. They’ll never get it right for everyone and nor should they.

Just wish for Families, Max was truly worth it. I think for individuals, it probably is.

Since when did Vue and Pizza Express vouchers become available as a perk alongside Greggs and Trainline?

Exactly what I’ve just noticed!
With no announcement?

Just realised that :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

How many people travel outside the EU/UK and take cash out every month for 12 months. Ok if you work in international transportation such as flight crew or shipping. But most people are probably not even doing that once a year. It’s been a decade since I was last outside the EU/UK.

So for most people the actual value will be way lower.

Back to the advertising theme.

30 October - large, intrusive ad for Perks - dismissable.
31 October - even larger intrusive ad for perks - dismissable.
1 November - small ad for perks cluttering up transaction feed - not dismissable.

This is getting very tiresome.

Did someone say you’re forced to order a new card when you upgrade?

I’ve just moved from Extra to Perks and was able to ‘Skip’.

It’s optional when upgrading. Forced when downgrading (but you can refuse to activate the new card).

Ah cool, I’m getting muddled up.

One thing I have noticed is that I had ‘Extra’ set to pay from a pot (shiny new feature) but it defaulted to my Personal account when I upgraded.

I paid a 10p tax on my £3 Extra fee today after upgrading to Perks.

It’s not just annoying, it’s downright wrong.

I believe this has come up before. A while back.
