The thing for me, as someone in their cough late 40s, and with two kids, is the railcard makes huge sense for me, it makes days out with the kids cheaper, and if I need to travel alone, cheaper, as they get older, I’ll switch from a Network card, to a Family Card, and that cost is easily covered.
As for Greggs, won’t take many trips to cover the cost, bundle it with the O2 freebies, that’s a nice bonus.
If and when we do travel internationally on a regular basis, (we don’t yet) then I might look at the next tier up.
I can’t believe this took as long. I expected it before the Nationwide mentions TBH.

WOW! This is exactly what i’ve been after!! Thanks Monzo.
After looking into each of the offerings here and comparing to what I have with NatWest, i’ve decided to upgrade from Plus to Max Family. Now, my partner can cancel his breakdown cover, and doesn’t need to worry about phone insurance.
The only thing I will slightly miss is Tastecard but I haven’t actually used it in 6 months so it’s something I am willing to lose in favour of this upgrade.
I currently pay £24.99 for HSBC Select Cover for phone insurance, breakdown and Excess cover.
Max looks like a good offering to me and looks like I could save some money in the long run too!!
Yeah, the railcard is pretty nice. I think it’s going to be the reason I switch to Perks
Although Santander already hand out a free one for four years with their student account:
After 25 the £7/mo plan seems like pretty good value for the perks, but especially in the student ages I think people would shop around a bit and see their options
I do this too - and exactly my train of thought… I can now biff HSBC’s insurance and save some cash (which will pay for something like Prioirty Pass to make up for the loss of discounted airport lounge access!..)
Look into NatWest Premier Black. Effectively £21 a month and you get unlimited airport lounges included (no price per booking) and a concierge service.
Absolutely not worth it for me. Biggest perks I use of premium are the travel insurance and lounge access. I’ll stick with Premium for now.
I nearly signed up on the spot because of the railcard, but turns out it’s only for people who are actually eligible for a railcard anyway.
I don’t eat greggs, get my breakdown through my insurer and get the same credit insights for free elsewhere. Maybe I’m just not Monzo’s target audience anymore?
Can I choose to have my plus card renewed in Holographic Blue or will it be the new coral?
I’m probably one of the few who pays for plus just because I like the blue card, I don’t use the features much and other banks offer similar saving rates for free.
If we are currently a premium user and we dont want to upgrade - do we still get our metal cards re-issued when the current ones expire? Or are they completely gone from now on?
The sign-up flow is pretty awesome, you get a breakdown of everything included in the Phone Insurance, Breakdown cover, Travel insurance, etc. I don’t remember seeing this in the Premium onboarding and it makes it very clear what you can claim for
