I have downgraded from Plus to Extra which suits my needs and saves me £2. If i order a new card will i be sent the basic hot coral card? Bit sick of the blue plus card now and fancy a change lol
If you get a new card, it will be new card details.
Welcome to the community! Really hope @rossmonzo and the rest of the team take this on board. My brother lives in NI and I know that a lot of the time there is a feeling of being a poor relation as it is, so whilst this may not seem like a big deal to some, I definitely feel like it is a sore spot and it would be great if something else could be offered instead.
Looking at the T&C It infers no, you have to make the claim on their behalf. However they are covered travelling independently (with a list of reasons for not covering such as if they are on an organised trip etc)
So hang on. The Max card is it metal?
No.
Great!
Thanks mate!
Hehe I didn’t know if my post would get auto flagged for being too short but yeah sadly it’s not.
Thanks - that’s what I thought. Im planning to downgrade to ‘extra’ as none of the perks are any good to me, and 3 x free cash deposits per month pointless with that limit in place.
Im not an international arms dealer or anything like that! Get paid cash / cheques for football refereeing. Not life-changing amounts but can be more than £1000 in 180 days when you factor in travel expenses.
Workaround is to pay into RBS then transfer it.
If you have a Santander branch nearby, you can pay cash into your account using the outdoor ATM. It’s the only reason I still have my account with them
Yeah its easy enough and I still have a branch in the town where I live, but the whole point of moving to a challenger bank was to leave the old guard behind.
Ive been with Monzo since March 2017 and love it. Cheque imaging was a game changer for me so the cash limit is now my only niggle.
Was there any consideration to adding better Flex terms into any of the plans?
I was having a look earlier at the “value” of each of the new perks - to see how they line up.
If you assume direct retail values for the relvant plans - then they look a little like this:
Perk | Value (per Month) | Min Plan |
---|---|---|
Other Accounts, Custom Categories, Virtual Cards, Advanced Roundups, Credit Tracker, Google Sheets Export | £3 | Extra |
Interest | 0.5% Benefit (Value varies) | Perks |
Fee-free cash abroad | £12 | Perks |
Free Cash Deposit | £3 | Perks |
Discount Investment Fees | £0.08 per £1000 invested per Month | Perks |
Railcard | £2.50 | Perks |
Sausage | £5-9 | Perks |
Phone Insurance - Personal | £5.00 | Max |
Phone Insurance - Family | £9.17 | Max+ |
Worldwide Travel - Personal | £5.00 | Max |
Worldwide Travel - Family | £10.83 | Max+ |
UK+EU Breakdown | £23.95 - £32.95 | Max |
UK+EU Breakdown - Family | £33.95 - £42.95 | Max+ |
RAC don’t offer a directly comparable plan - so the rough retail values are approximate - and I searched for similar levels of cover on Travel + Phone plans with different providers.
So total fixed value of each plan (removing the two perks that vary depending on savings/investments) - the total value looks like this:
Plan | Plan Cost | Total Value | Plan Specific Cost | Plan Specific Value |
---|---|---|---|---|
Extra | £3 | £3 | £3 | £3 |
Perks | £7 | £28 | £4 | £25 |
Max | £17 | £66 | £10 | £38 |
Max+Family | £22 | £86 | £5 | £20 |
(all per Month)
So all in all the Max plan has a good value proposition behind it, IMO - but obviously that depends on your ability to utilise all aspects of the Plan.
Hopefully the above gives a good value breakdown too so you can perceive which bits of the package are worthwhile to each
Manifesting the new “Monzo closed my account for no reason post” where instead of us asking if they used crypto or made transaction disputes the new proving question would be “So how many sausage rolls did you get in a week?”
Yes indeed it’s this! I don’t know if there’s a better framing of it, but “Total Value” being the total value if you pick said plan. (So Max + Family is worth £114), and Plan Value means, e.g. “Max + Family only perks is worth about £58”.
And @N26throwaway yes good point I have mixed one or two annual figures in there - but let me check my workings.
Edit: it’s now correct!
Whoops
OK - the numbers are now accurate for a Monthly view on both tables (@N26throwaway)
In my excitement to calculate things, I excelled all wrongly.
