Introducing Extra, Perks and Max

Exciting news for me!

Previously was paying £13/m for FlexPlus for the travel & breakdown cover and £5/m for Plus, just to have the connected accounts.

For me - a no-brainer to cancel FlexPlus and upgrade to Max, saving £1.

Obviously, I could have moved to Extra and saved a bit extra, but the weekly Greggs makes it worth it, and my 18-25 Railcard is coming up to expire soon, so I made a ‘saving’ there.

The only potential con is RAC rather than AA, which on most accounts seems to be much more reliable, but luckily haven’t ever had to use breakdown cover.

Never relied on the phone cover and purchased AppleCare anyway.

Look forward to receiving my new card - great work Monzo!

Hi  if you already have a policy with the RAC and then sign up to Monzo Max, they will contact you to let you know your options (one of which may be cancelling) so you are not over insured.

Downgrade journey feedback, all simple enough, clear and explained. The credit part timed out, might have been my connection, might be the same as someone above that had a lot of data. Tapped it from the Extra menu and all fine.

But… No card info. I didn’t have the blue Plus card so maybe that’s confused things #TeamYello but no mention of a coral card, no mention of a replacement. Top of the home page still shows yellow. :man_shrugging:

Which two?

So after what feels like years I have decided to cancel Premium and instead look for the items individually. However even after all that time it is mandatory to hand back the metal card and replace it with a plastic one. This seems a real waste and doesn’t provide any thank you loyalty for having it for so long.

Quite a disappointment :frowning:

For me, someone who already has Plus, The extra £2/mo would be worth it when my Railcard expires in February (would actually save me 50p/mo), but until then, I don’t go Greggs that often, so that’s kinda moot.

I do wish virtual cards were juiced up with this, it’d nice to have one-time usage cards (like Revolut), vendor lock, maximum monthly spend, and also, of course, more than 5.

For me, I worked it out, and Monzo Perks would save me being generous, £4/mo, or being more honest, £2.50/mo. I’ll likely keep paying, but £3-£4.50/mo, for what equates to 2x roundups (which I could rebuild with the API if the API had been updated in the past 5 years ;-; ), a credit tracker (apps like Credit Karma are free) and borderline useless virtual cards isn’t the greatest deal, for me at least. Can’t forget about the slightly different card though! (those clear cards look so NICE though)

Also, I noticed, in the app, it sent me a survey after I closed out the upgrade screen (which stops playing audio every time you open it ffs), asking me “what perks i get elsewhere” which included the Bold Coral Card (elsewhere? lol) and “Elevated Profile”(???).

I mean, their conference was in London yesterday so they timed it right

Ha, the map link didn’t work then?

Hey, designer on the new plans here, thanks for sharing. Extra doesn’t come with a new card so the default is to keep your existing card active. If you had the Plus card active and upgraded to Perks or Max, we’d have given you the option to keep your existing card or order a new card that comes with the plan.

I’ve upgraded from Premium to Max after some research and deliberation. Doing this allows me to ditch the separate HSBC insurances I had for my husband and I when it came to phone insurance/breakdown cover, and I managed to find a 30% offer to join Priority Pass for airport lounge access, which comes out at £4 per month.

I don’t travel by train much, but a railcard will still come in useful for those times that I do, and I will use the free Greggs each week (even if just for a coffee), just because it’s there.

So I’ve increased from paying Monzo £15 per month to £22 per month (plus an additional £4 p/m for Priority Pass) but closed down my separate insurances from HSBC, which overall saves me £13.99 a month. All in all, I’ll call that a win - and I hated the white card with a passion (it stained almost immediately for me), so I’ll be glad to see the back of it!

I would happily pay £3 a month for the ability to pay directly from pots like our American friends are able to do !

This is why I left for chase and honestly so much happier for it

Perks plan isn’t all that great if you happen to be in the 31-59 age bracket like myself. Should have option to swap out the rail card for something I can use!

Greggs I get through virgin media/ O2 anyway so am going to stick with plus for now

Really need an iPad app monzo even starling has one and the major high street banks do!

It quite clearly says you can keep your existing card until it’s expiry date if you upgrade!

This is a bit of a bummer…
So we have to pay more, but no metal card anymore because its cheaper for monzo to not do that?

The lounge access the one time i used it was a let down, but thats on behalf of loungekey for not being clear with how the discount works and the lounge itself not having space despite me pre-booking…

The perks are lost on me as someone who doesn’t like greggs, and finds the UK train network to be unreliable when its needed most and chooses to drive everywhere instead.

My main draws were the insurance for mobile and travel, and to a degree the metal card, id rather loose the greggs, railcard and metal card and pay less or have a boosted savings rate or something.

Edit: I just realised i dont fit into the age range for any of the rail cards anyway, and ive just seen you were experimenting with transparent cards which look really cool! but you elected to go for a coral colour?
This has missed the mark for me and ill be exploring what else is out there and paying less a month on a lower tier.

So reflecting back, I’m starting to warm to the idea of Perks. I think if you were plus, paying £5 and you now pay £7 that’s probably worth it.

For the Max plan, my only comment here is while yes it might be cheaper than other options, I’d really encourage people to read the IPID documents. Other providers may actually be better in terms of what they cover.

I’m not too sure why people are calling connected accounts ‘abandonware’. It has clearly been improving constantly, from the new look on the main screen where you can pin accounts that look like stacked cards, to little improvements like the individual account view, refreshing done right and animations.

I’m even happier that I can just pay £3 for it now instead of £5 (I think I’ll downgrade to that but not 100% decided yet).

This should now be fixed. Please can you let me know how you get on if you try again?

It worries me a little that downgrading feels like the best option - not really what I was expecting with this. Hopefully that £3 option has enough take-up to offset all the people choosing to downgrade now.

Genuinely curious, what did you like about the metal cards? you could always choose to not have a metal card even on that tier.
