“protects” in terms of making sure they’re actually paid(I.e concerns for Monzo’s payment cycle etc) or just segregated so that you don’t spend it?
Wow. So no rent, utilities, council tax, Internet, TV licence, insurance etc?
A second account/pot for bills, for a lot of people with more than 2 bills, is super useful.
Its worth pointing out that this isn’t just my account, its a joint account with 20+ direct debits. Monzo does a good job showing available money, especially with the new UI but I prefer to make one payment into a separate account and just forget about my bills. I don’t want to see 2 different balances on my account either, it reminds me of how legacy accounts have 2 amounts shown for balance and available funds
I paid my rent in an installment, no council tax as I’m a student. No tv license I don’t watch live TV or iPlayer. I get how one long list could Uber convoluted very quickly
Yeah I get what you mean now.
Makes sense.
Wait until you graduate! Direct debits and bills here there and everywhere!
Committed Spending Pot
segregated so that I don’t spend it, this covers
- rent
- council tax
- car payments
- car insurance
- contents insurance
- pet insurance
- Netflix
- Spotify
- Gym
- Credit card payment * 2
- Mobile phone
- RAC
- Gas
- Electricity
- TV license
- Internet
Think that’s it…
As long as I can LOCK that completely, then yes.
But I prefer a non-visible option TBH
I now completely understand how annoying it can especially on a small screen scrolling through all of that
This is why I haven’t gone full Monzo. I either need two accounts, or functionality that let’s me separate day-to-day spending from bills. Once that’s sorted, I will move over. Until then, Metro Bank has the bulk of my cash.
Yup! And only a few of those I could ‘ditch’ as well.
Unless monzo offer cashback on bills there’s absolutely no incentive to move those things to monzo. Even with a committed spend pot, what would the benefit be of paying them all from monzo rather than your (general, not asking anybody in particular) current set up?
Yeah good point. I’m not really ‘anti’ my legacy bank, they do the job I need of them. I think maybe some people just want one bank account?
Maybe, I have considered it but then I wonder why bother. I have my own disposable spend in my monzo account, my wife has the same and then our joint monzo just covers monthly spend rather than bills. That’s what monzo is good at, categories are useful for organising grocery and petrol budgets, then pots for date nights, clothes for the kid etc
Works perfect and we still get the ring fenced santander bills account with cashback
Surely you’re forgetting your water utility bill?
I still don’t get why Summary doesn’t give you that
Will never go full Monzo. I have current accounts with five other banks. This is to keep different aspects of my life separated so there is no temptation to use money allocated for one purpose for a different one;
Personal bills and credit card Bank 1.
Joint & family bills & CC Bank 2.
Personal investing money via Bank 3.
Family investing money via Bank 4
Rainy day cash savings via Bank 5
Monzo is personal spending bank 6.
This way I can easily not muddle which money belongs to which purpose.
I also don’t want to pay to deposit cash, nor have cheques be deposited via post. I like my cheque balances being available next working day.
With Monzo I like the way I can have budgets & pots as well as good foreign conversion rates & £200 free atm cash abroad.
I may eventually move personal bills (Bank 1) over to Monzo but not until my credit card spending can show too.
I thus will not get my energy etc via Monzo unless I can have a second current account (Bank 2) as I will not mix personal & joint/family money. (Note this is not a joint account just money allocated for joint spending)
I will not use Monzo for funnelling my Rainy Day cash savings either as it mucks up the budgeting having larger sums moving in & out.
Do you not feels (with some improvement) pots in Monzo could replace you having to have 6 bank accounts?
Nope. I live in Scotland.
