“I’m setting up a Monzo personal account in Ireland

“Can I use a Monzo personal account in Ireland to receive Uber payments without any issues?”

For self employment income?

You can provide them with your IBAN and payments will arrive like any other salary payment yes.

“Why not? The possibilities are limitless like any other bank account.”

I assume the question is less about whether the account can technically receive the payments and more about whether using a personal account for this purpose would be against the terms of the account and a business account is required. Not sure about Monzo but some banks would certainly require a business account for this. I know Nationwide told a family member who is a self employed hairdresser that using a personal current account with them to deposit their self employed earnings was not allowed and if she kept doing it they could close the account

You’re not running a business you’re self employed. Uber pay your “wages” into the account, which is fine.

If you were receiving multiple incomes/invoicing many folks for services then you’d look for a sole trader account.

But on the Uber basis, there won’t be any implications.

Very fine line between these things. As I say I’m just quoting Nationwide that said a self employed hairdresser is not allowed to use a personal account for the purposes of paying in their self employment income

From multiple people? Ie loads of different incomes from personal accounts, or one payment weekly/monthly from their business account?

The former is the problem. It’s harder for KYC.

One employer making payment weekly or monthly is fine.

The former I think which is likely the issue so I guess if you only work for uber and that’s it it’s prob fine. If you work for multiple companies it likely won’t be
