ohhh, ordering a taster pack now!
All Gluten Free too which means I can actually have it all.
Looking forward to the White Chocolate Bar
Edit: Very sneaky to offer £5 off the first order but make the taster kit £19.95, not sure that was by accident

This is piquing my interest I have huel black vanilla now and honestly find is disgusting - Trying to battle through it but I just can’t finish it and have 1 and a half bags left.
Yfood seem more expensive but if the taste is better it will be worth it.
I bought a bottle of that in Sainsbury’s a while ago, thought it was awful, the worst thing i’ve ever tasted in my life, never looked at another Huel product since.
It started off okay not it just tastes bland.
Will be selling it I think just can’t get on with it.
I find the huel pre made totally different to the powdered stuff .
Ive been following the whole huel/soylent thing for years. Just been living in places where we’d always cook food collectively last few years.
But as of today just moved into a new place alone, so finally got the chance to try out huel. I just got vanilla and banana. Looking forward to it
I’m going to try lose weight using Huel and hoping someone could help! I’m thinking of doing:
When everything’s back to normal I would be going to the gym 2-4 times a week but In the meantime I do walk 5-6 miles a day so this would be my exercise.
Could someone tell me if they think this would be a good diet plan for 2-4 months to lose around 50lbs and put on some muscle?
Hi Sam - I’m a trained PT (although my qualifications are very much lapsed these days!) and I’ve helped a fair few people achieve similar goals to yours in the past. I’m not a doctor so please take this as information not medical advice! Not knowing your current circumstances it’s impossible to be specific so I’ll be a bit general.
You’re looking to both lose fat and gain muscle mass at the same time. If you’re currently significantly overweight this is possible but it’s much harder than focusing on one thing at a time. There is no ‘quick fix’ to achieve a significant change in your body’s composition. You’re almost certainly better off following a weight loss program first and then a muscle gaining one afterwards.
I’ve always recommended whole food diets but I can’t see any reason Huel wouldn’t serve the same purpose. The only issue I can see is diet fatigue setting in (which makes it harder to follow) but if you’re wilful enough you could overcome that. You’re better off being consistent than including ‘cheat’ days and I would never recommend fasting. The most important thing is you achieve a regular and consistent calorie deficit (whatever you’re eating) but don’t ever fall below 1500kcal a day.
I’d also suggest you take a look at a running plan (Couch to 5k is free and excellent). If you’re already walking 5 miles a day you should be able to manage it and the benefits of getting some more active CV in over just walking are massive.
From my own experience of trying to lose weight, I’ve always been told that fasting like this is counter-productive. It puts the body in ‘starvation’ mode and causes you to put weight back on (or lose less), because when you do eat the body is now trying to keep all the food as fat in case you starve again.
This is very much in line with what I’ve been told by health experts who have advised me on my own diet in the past - eat less than needed but don’t ever fall below a set floor.
Seems really ambitious to me. If you could keep it up, sure it would be amazing and you’d see great results. Without knowing you personally can’t say. But I know if I attempted that I’d probably fail after a week or two.
Seems like Stuart’s advice seems really accurate.
Thanks for the detailed response Stuart!
I think what I’ll end up trying would be either 4 serving of Huel Black a day then (1,600kcal) or 3 servings and then something to get me up to 1,500kcal limit like some fruit.
You definitely know more than me in this area so I’m going to follow your advice and stay consistent with 1,500kcal 7 days a week for 2-3 months and see how that goes rather than fasting or adding in a cheat meal. But, I think I’ll add some whole food options on the weekend so I don’t give in to cravings which I’ve been known to do in the past.
My primary focus is weight loss first so I’m going to focus on this, funnily enough I have completed the C25K not long before lock down started, but I wasn’t consistent with exercise or diet since then hence the need for weight loss. I suppose getting back into cardio would be the best form of exercise for me so I’m going to see how I get on running, if I’ve lost my confidence I’ll start C25K again.
I have ordered some Huel Black which should arrive this week so hopefully I can follow your advice strictly and stick to this.
Thanks again
Thank you for this.
I was going to ease into it for the first few days and have some fruit for snacks and then 2-3 servings of Huel Black.
I think I will miss chewing and consuming solid food so I’m only going to be consuming Huel In the week, on the weekends I’ll find something else to eat.
I also have no expertise to offer just my own experience and bits of researh I did earlier in the year.
I “replaced” my weekdays breakfasts (often I skipped breakfast) with Huel (400 cals) at the start of 2020 to counter not having enough time to get breakfast and to reduce hunger at lunch-time leading to expensive and unhealthy lunch purchases at work. I probably increased my average calorie consumption by a little (+200-300) doing this but they were much more spread out and I was having smaller lunches. The plan was to see how my weight and BF% dealt with the calorific increase and cut down to either 1 scoop at breakfast or include Huel in lunch if required.
The Huel helped to achieve my aims time wise but also as an unexpected side effect I actually lost just over half a stone too and that stayed stable even though I’ve been pretty sedentary during lock-down:
I’m not sure whether this is simply spreading out the calories, consuming more water with the Huel, getting more of the required micro-nutrients in, cutting out the inevitable carb heavy lunch or some combination of these but there’s clearly something good going on.
I’ve got some BIA scales that I use fairly regularly just after waking before eating or exercising - to counter the inaccuracies - and this seems to indicate that the weight loss is entirely undigested food/body fat/water retention (no change in lean-mass). I’m okay with this as weight-loss wasn’t really my aim but might be worth you considering keeping in mind that by replacing all/most of your meals with Huel that there might be a rebound in weight (water and undigested food) when you get to the end of your few months as you move back to solid foods.
I also mention the above because you’ll likely see a faster overall weight loss at the start and this will taper off because of the above and because your calorific requirements will reduce as you lose weight
but you shouldn’t let that discourage you.
Only other thing I’ve thought of is that it’s good that you’re planning on easing into the Huel only as I’ve heard some people have had digestion/gas issues when swapping two of their meals out for Huel in one step. Good luck and keep us posted.
A lot of information to digest here but I appreciate the detailed response, I’ll have a good look over it soon when I’m not busy. I skimmed over and noticed you also use Huel. I am going to make a second order with a few extra products they sell to try them out, do you have a referral code so you can get £10 off your next order?
All Huel are good at are clever marketing they prey on people’s insecurities.
Simple way to lose weight is to ensure you’re in a calorie deficit, eating perfectly normal things is all that’s needed.
Plenty apps about to track calories and help with this.
The only use case I can see for Huel and other competitors are for those people who have to be on a liquid diet due to illness
I do, I’ve sent it over on DM but think it might just work on first order
@DaveJ I think you’ve missed the other use cases given in this thread - one being that it’s quicker to prepare than most other meals.
I work 3 jobs but still manage to make actual food in the limited time I have left over
I don’t think that invalidates other people’s lifestyle. Not everyone is capable of creating well balanced meals so why not give them an alternative. I can’t speak for the competitors but Huel’s website reads more like a nutritional than a weight loss product to me.
At home at the moment so on normal lunches with the 2 hours a day I am saving not travelling to work - really didn’t enjoy Huel myself the taste wasn’t great.
Yfood sounds like it could be the one for me (the chocolate sounds delicious!) - want to try a trial pack but I feel it would be wasted on me as I cannot have caffeine so on the lookout for an odd bottle.
Forgive the ignorance but are you supposed to use these as a permanent replacement or just short term?
If it’s the latter, would it not be difficult to switch from essentially having chocolate everyday to a simple sandwich for example? Are you not setting yourself up for more difficulties transitioning back to “normal eating” later down the line?
This is when I start thinking along the same lines as @DaveJ where just eating portion controlled meals in moderation would be better long term?
