HSBC Chat

That is definitely true, yes.

Intermittent for sure. It’s down again, the app was working for a short while earlier.

Close the app fully, turn on airplane mode, open app then turn off airplane mode.

You’ll hit the no connection screen, then once you have your connection just login as normal.

While I agree that every company has bumps in the road with their systems, you would expect a major bank to be more resilient.

Obviously the impact felt will be different for each person who banks with them but there are definitely some who are going to be quite badly financially affected by this.

I guess it highlights now more than ever, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Up for me now, Faster payments outbound working, Open Banking payments currently not.

Or just fixing what broke :joy:

Your trick above worked just now for me and I was able to get in my accounts. How did you discover it?

It is back working for me again, with no tricks. Hopefully it will be working for others now.

I wonder if we’ll ever find out what broke it.

Someone mentioned it on Facebook.

Nice little message this morning. I wonder what caused it

I also thought this was a well timed message and pretty unmissable in the app. Easily dismissed too.

HSBC also emailed their customers which I thought was a nice touch and something other banks could learn from.

We’re really sorry if you have had problems using our online and mobile banking over the last couple of days.

Whether it was to pay bills, check your balance or buy something online, you should have been able to rely on us. We know this falls well below the support you expect from us, and we’re extremely sorry.

The interruption to our online and mobile banking was caused by a technical issue that our IT teams have been working hard with our vendors to fix. Our online and mobile banking services are now back up and running normally but some services may be slower as customers log in. We’re really sorry to those impacted and we’ll continue to monitor systems closely.

We’ll have as many of our colleagues as possible on our phones and in our branches today to help customers impacted by this. If you need support please contact us or visit your local branch.

One last but important thing to note – please be alert for criminals who will use events like this to trick you into sending money to safe accounts and / or divulge security details. We will never ask you to move money or share your passcodes. If someone calls and asks you to do that they will be a scammer.

We really appreciate your patience and want to reassure you that we’re working hard to prevent this happening in the future. All of our attention is focused on giving you the reliable service that you and our other customers rightly expect.

Anyone else not receive this email?

I didn’t get that but I did get an apology email from them yesterday evening.

Anybody else missing notifications since the outage? I’ve done the usual phone reboot and toggled notifications off/on in the HSBC app but still no joy. A lot of people complaining about it on X, too.

Yes. I’m still getting them for the credit card strangely, but not for my premier account. I didn’t even notice yesterday that when I used the card I didn’t, but just transferred some money between accounts and didn’t get them for that either.

As a result of the outage? Not yet, but I’m keeping a close eye on their reliability.

Nope.

One outage in a whole year of banking, resolved pretty quickly so no concerns here. If it happened on a regular basis I might, but it’s been a pleasant experience for the most part.

@mikez I did the whole app delete, restart, re-install etc and still nada on either the phone or the iPad, my guess is something at their end is borked as a result. Hopefully they’l come back as they have been pretty reliable.

They just need to start working for Global Money (coming 2024, along with budgeting across all cards, apparently)

Yes, this is what it looks like.

Their notifications seem to still be rather fragile after a couple of years. I have to toggle the settings to bring them back at least once a month.

Just had an in-app chat with HSBC and they said that “the team are aware and working to get notifications back up and running as soon as possible”.
