HSBC Chat

I might just do that and see how it goes. It still seems like way too much hassle to call in and get booked for an appointment. Were you automatically approved for it?

Sorry, you were typing as I was. I got the typical “we will be in touch” and I must have been approved as it appeared in app.

I did submit the form but I hadn’t been an HSBC account holder for over a year. I did still have the app installed (although empty) and expected the new account to appear in there, but they created a brand new customer profile for me, so had to wait for the letter in the post with the code.

Oh interesting. I had a legacy savings accounts and they matched it to my existing profile.

I would’ve done but have all of these now. FWIW I think it’s a good deal albeit a little (a lot) complicated.

The global money account is actually pretty decent and a good option if you want a multi currency card. Though annoyingly it doesn’t (yet) show in the plan tab, nor does credit card spending.

No complaints here, HSBC have been a good bank for anyone considering an alternative. Only NatWest for me beats them but their savings rates are not great.

Same. I have both an Advance account and a Global Money account already.

Might nudge @MrsW into doing this though…

Did they say that? I joined HsBC and FD during the restricted time frames before and managed to get both. They supposedly communicate in some way but not sure how.

Sort of like Barclays. I had an issue with my Barclays & Barclaycard address the person on the phone said they weren’t the same company so to speak, but Barclaycard could see certain details from my Barclays account but not a lot.

What I was pointing was I’ve done this before when the terms stated I shouldn’t qualify. There’s a fair few on Reddit and MSE too that have done the same in the past.

But it’s always a risk to do.

It’s very limited. I’ve used it a few times but once I found out anything other than “who is HSBC” or “ do put Jam or cream on first” got you a request to use the in app chat or phone, I never bothered.

I’m sure they’de honour it if the application was made within the offer timescales. They’re not the quickest at account opening, but are normally pretty decent when you have it.

They no longer offer Advance? I didn’t really see the benefits of it to be honest.

The switch offer is no longer available.

These days very little. I’m not sure why they even bother with the name really, I suppose you have to call it something. It used to have a few nice reasons for having it but they’ve removed nearly all of them.

Coincidentally I’m still waiting to hear back for my premier application, must be 8 days now. I don’t think I’ve been credit checked yet as there’s nothing on any of the CRA reports which I’m subscribed to for real time updates.

Update: spoke with them and apparently they have a backlog for new applications. So I guess I’ll have to wait it out.

Im really confused.

If you already have an existing HSBC credit card then are you not ineligible anyway?

Aye I remembered after posting but cba to change it :joy: simple enough for some to reference.

So they’ve created a new premier bank account for me with new ac number / sort code. Surely they should have upgraded my existing account?

You’d think so but no, the premier account is a standalone as it’s entirely possible for someone to have one of those and an advance account too for whatever reason.

That makes sense, because I went through the route you mentioned (applying for it anyway even though they ask existing customers to get in touch and book a branch/phone appt) they’ve instead just opened a brand new account.

Edit: spoke to them about upgrading my existing one, same process - need to book in a phone appointment which they say is 1.5hrs!!! Think I’ll keep the new account.

I think I’ve commented before but the best way with HSBC I’ve found is to go in branch. The data they had for me was ancient despite having a Credit Card approval with updated details and they always seem to track a new card/account as a brand new customer even though you are a customer.

When you go online for a Credit Card say, you apply as if you are a new customer if I remember correctly; even if you are logged into the app/site. Whereas Halifax/Lloyds would pick up you are a current customer and only soft search you beforehand too.

I like HSBC but both FD & HSBC seem to do things a bit backwards in my view
