HSBC Chat

I’ve got one I use primarily to topup my Octopus card these days, how dormant does it have to be to be suspended?

Australia do it per account too (12 months I believe though), I’ve got a dormant AUD Bonus Saver account, but all my other HSBC AU accounts are active (I actually use them, although the USD Bonus Saver will go dormant at some point). It’s been dormant for about 5 years now with a zero balance, I cba to arrange for it to be closed.

HSBC’s apps are getting much better, UK particularly which, along with HK, now have the “new” layout; the ones I use most, AU/US/Singapore, are still in the “old” style, as is Expat.

First Direct’s app is good, but I hate the fact it automatically triggers Face ID - HSBC proper require you to press a button to login first, which makes it easier if you’re only opening it to generate a security code (FD I have to block the camera so it can’t see me, if I remember to do so). Minor problem in the grand scheme of things for me to get irrationally annoyed with.

See, I get annoyed with hsbc app not invoking Face ID right away :joy:

Would be easier to put a link to generate a security code in the app post-login, like you can with Barclays PINsentry.

:joy: this proves that you can’t ever please everyone I suppose haha.

This would do, both HSBC and FD apps make you logout once you’re in, which equally annoys me haha. Especially in countries which force you to use the code now to login online, if you need to change from app to desktop for some reason (some still allow the password to login).

Not used FD in a long time but from memory in iOS at least can’t you long press on the app icon and one of the pop up options is to generate a security code?

You probably can. You can do this with the HSBC app. I don’t mind the fact you have to press log-on, as others have said if you just need the code it’s easier.

You can do this.

Reader, he did bother moving banks again :joy:

It turns out I got £12k which is a bit silly, I don’t imagine I’ll come close to that at any point. I was considering asking for it to be dropped but think I’ll leave it for now.

What’s odd is that at no point (that I can remember) did it tell me what my limit or offer was. FD ask what limit you would like and accept or not, same with Lloyds.

I had no idea until I was able to get into the app.

For those lucky enough to have it, does HSBCs open banking work like most others, where you can show your accounts with other banks (like Narionwide) including savings accounts on your HSBC app home page and transfer money into them?

From their festive email they said in the new year the ability to see other bank accounts in the app will be rolling out.

It appears so! I didn’t realise this, thanks! With FD anyway, which is the issue I had. Also HSBC UK, but not Expat, US, SG, HK or AU. Ah well, I learned something!

[Included a screenshot but removed as it was flagged for some reason].

Nationwide don’t expose their savings accounts via open banking so you can’t see those via any bank that uses open banking

Ok that’s not so bad as long as I can see the credit card

Went to check out pending credit card transactions because @Carlo1460 had told me they were a thing and

Of course it is. I’d fully forgotten this was a thing with HSBC :joy:

Such a pain they cannot do this early hours instead

Or even not at all. I did like that with Lloyds you would see the transaction show straight away on the CC, and then it would (magically) go to cleared. The card never disappeared.

So investments can be opened in app again, it was broken for about a week.

Speaking of….insights is broken for me currently, for the debit card. Each time I try to enable it, it just turns straight back off again. Slightly annoying.
