HSBC Chat

Well, the horses have been put out to Stud. I’ve still not had any mail so resorted to going to an actual branch. This isn’t easy to do as none open at weekends, and only open during business hours.

I think I’m more worried about Lloyds messing up the switch than anything right now.

I will say Lloyds was a good bank and I wouldn’t have issues recommending them but it’s nice to be back in the big red and white house.

In Burnley, there’s a building in white with Red lions, which threw me for a second as I thought the bank had closed, which after a 30 min drive I’d have been raging about. It turns out the branch is in the street behind but that can’t just be coincidence.

I like that they’ve finally put card details in the app so I can at least update things while I wait for Royal Snail to deliver the real ones.

What is it you like about HSBC so much?

I think it was the fact it just “worked” and that wherever I was I could get support whenever I needed. I realised that was more important than anything else really.

All banks have their good and bad bits of course.

Aye it’s a shame Lloyds didn’t really bring anything special with the Premier account.

Chat is hopeless.

The HSBC UK Premier seasonal greetings email included:

I wonder what they plan next.

We only have one branch left in NI, so I am sure that one will not be closed. I am more curious about what the new Premier perks may be

It really is. At least with HSBC you get an actual human helping. Also true 24/7 support, with Lloyds the premier 24/7 was basically just the emergency card line where nothing could be done because any department you needed was closed.

I will miss the nicely formed transactions however.

New transaction details in the iOS HSBC app.

Feels like they are moving in the right direction and at speed.

Wouldn’t bank on that. Lloyds had one once and closed it. Well, Cheltenham & Gloucester, but still.

They’ll have none anyway if you guys join the Republic of Ireland and become a single island as it’s unlikely UK banks will be allowed to even operate within Northern Ireland if it’s eventually treated as a collective Ireland without the correct licenses and I don’t believe the likes of HSBC even operate within the Republic of Ireland at the moment only Northern Ireland.

That in itself will be an absolute head melt if and when it happens to dissolve and move people or get those banks fast tracked to operate within Ireland

The consequences of a United Ireland in the banking system is not something I was expecting to see here

On the serious note, once it becomes a single Ireland, all the UK banks will probably leave. AIB and Bank of Ireland will remain. Maybe Danske too.

HSBC has an Irish subsidiary, but only for corporate banking.

Have I missed something? :joy:

Is this the normal app or the TestFlight one? It was nice to see last time I had the app (around Jan) to now they had added in the ability to see card details.

More detail on transactions (actual date v processed) and maps would’ve been the main thing I would’ve missed from Lloyds. If HSBC has that, total win.

Actually found out a transaction has cleared now and indeed it is the normal app. A nice surprise.

Yes I only checked today and could see more info once I selected the transaction. Nice Apple maps integration too. I think we’ll see a lot more to come in 2026

You can also now see your current account card details in the app - something that was first only available for the Global Money account.

Yes I remember that and was surprised to see this in the app now which was nice.

That will be by far the least of the problems. What happened last time was that the Protestant population largely either left or was driven out. My grandfather was amongst those driven out of Kings County (now County Offaly). I’m not sure how GB will cope with hundreds of thousands of refugees arriving on big boats.

I know that the question has officially been asked: ‘what will the UK government do to repatriate the British population from Northern Ireland?’. I didn’t hear the response.

Unless it happens really fast, it won’t affect me as we’re moving to Australia in a couple of years so will be able to observe the chaos and potential civil war from a safe distance.

So, back to HSBC. I found there are issues with the investment accounts which mean you can’t actually open them right now. At least I can’t. Even manually they seem to have issues which the agent was hugely apologetic about. I think I will try again next week.

Also I’ve noticed a few HSBC premier colleagues have, proudly, noted they are “xxxx from Leeds” which I assume is FD colleagues manning the premier line.

Which leads me to the consensus that if you really want Premier customer service, you just need to join FD :joy:

FD has always been about the service and interaction. HSBC however has more features and bells and whistles than the FD one.

I prefer the layout and presentation of FD to HSBC but the improvements to the HSBC app are making me consider using it over FD.

This is mainly why I’m with HSBC. I actually prefer the interface of FD plus the fact that you don’t have to be premier (because they don’t offer it) to have excellent service.

The issue I have is lack of investments and as you say the app is behind compared to HSBC.
