What an incredible year it has been! I’m out in California where it’s presently midday, so I’m still firmly in 2017 compared to most of you folks who are rapidly hurdling towards 2018
I just wanted to thank all of you who take time out of their day to post here and engage with us as we grow towards our aim of giving complete and easy control over our full financial lives to a billion people!
It has been an incredibly tough and yet massively rewarding year. We’ve moved 185,000 customers to our full upgraded current account to date, and are making great steps towards sunsetting our prepaid Beta as well as massively reducing our per-user costs. We’ve had amazing feedback on our first iteration of Pots, which is just one of many awesome new features. We’ve opened our office in Cardiff with loads of amazing staff and we have a USA base shaping up too! Our staff count has more than doubled in the last 12 months and that presents all sorts of new challenges too, but I’m more than happy to say we feel that we’ve done a really good job in maintaining company culture and keeping all of our staff happy, and in the areas where we might have failed, we’ve attempted to be proactive and identify any trends or areas we can do better in.
This community is our lifeline to our userbase. All of you that are active here, are representative of our most passionate users. Not just that - you’ve been so proactive at recommending Monzo to our own friends and family, that you’re also able to see how our product sits with wider groups of our users - the people that perhaps aren’t technically inclined, who aren’t early adopters. There’s an absolutely amazing level of trust here, which in many ways eliminates the barrier between company and userbase - so much so that we’ve hired multiple people from this very forum to come and work for us (and we’re still hiring, so you know what to do!).
It is really and truly an amazing thing to have so many people with us on this journey to build something amazing, and it’s even more inspiring to know that we have your support on the journey ahead!
One thing I’m personally really looking forward to in 2018 is the continuation of our Community Q&A with different staff members every week. The first two, with Chris MacLean and James Nicholson went down really well, and I really feel there’s huge value in you all getting the opportunity to see what’s happening in the company from as many different perspectives as possible.
I’m going to wrap this up so that I don’t keep anyone from their joyous merrymaking, but I wanted to extend an absolutely huge thanks from all of us at Monzo, to all of you in our community.
