Giving someone else permission to use card

Is it legal and not a breach of terms of service, to allow someone else to use your Monzo card with your permission?

You can give someone your card to use but its at your own risk if you trust them enough to and i sometimes give my card to my mate to go shop for me lol

Section 9 of the terms covers this. It states that

9.1. You must always make sure that you: 9.1.2. do not reveal your PIN and never write down your password(s), PIN or any security information you have given us unless you do this in a way that would make it impossible for anyone else to recognise any of that information;

You are not supposed to give your PIN to anyone.

It goes on to say

9.4 You may not be liable for any use of the card, card number, PIN or mobile application by another person who does not have your permission to use it or if it is lost, stolen or destroyed, unless:

9.4.1. you agreed to that person having your card, card number, PIN or mobile application credentials, or through gross negligence or carelessness, failed to comply with condition 9.1, in which case you may be liable for any use that occurs before you tell us in accordance with these terms and conditions, or…"

I don’t think Monzo would bother to limit or cancel you account/card if you do not comply, but you are liable for any money used on your card, with your knowledge.

I’m sure the official stance from Monzo would be something along the lines of “Why not get your mate to apply for a Monzo card and then use Monzo.me and bill spliting when he is doing shopping for you?”

I’m going to agree with @bhonobo here.

(Standard disclosure of I am not a legal professional, nor do I claim to be.)

By giving someone your card and PIN, you are authorising them with unlimited access to your money and you will have little to no recourse if the other person makes purchases you did not intend them to in the time between you telling them and you informing Monzo about it.

tl;dr: DON’T DO IT

Yep just to second the above, we wouldn’t advise giving your card and sharing your pin number with anyone. We don’t encourage this as it compromises the security on your account. If you do decide to share these details then as our terms say that you will be treated as authoring and consenting to any payments on the account, and we won’t be able to reimburse you for any of these transactions.
