General broadband discussion

You realise they’re two separate contracts? I guess both end around same time? Cancel the Virgin, when they take the Volt off O2, you add it again once you sign the new virgin contract

For £12 I get 250 GB which becomes unlimited with the Volt, with EU roaming as you.

They also alway have Volt promos, you may get lucky

First bargain for a new lower price, and be firm and intentional. Talk to them boldly like you know whatever you want. And of course be polite.

Take the £27pm for 500 which is then doubled to 1gig via Volt?

They didn’t budge. First person tried to give me an offer of £42 and then put me through to another department which might do a better deal and they offered me £47. Going to try again a few times to see if they will lower it

Otherwise i’ll have to cancel and get my wife to sign up to them to get the new customer offer! Will have to lose Volt since she is on EE and I am the only on on o2

Use this trick. Let her sign up with an alias email you create.
I am assuming O2 contract is also coming to an end. Port that number out temporarily to an MVNO (and port it back to O2 even after a day using same email wife used for Virgin. )
Go to Virgin and look for option to add a volt.
Add, when asked for O2 number select get new number.
Let that sim card be delivered, on delivery ask for porting in old number and port your number back from the MVNO.
You will at that moment already have the O2 and Virgin accounts using same email and merge them for the Vrigin-O2 ID .

That is what I did.

Just called Community Fibre as I was on the 1GB package which went up to £29 as I was out of contract, called them to see what they could do and said I wanted the below and they said no it is for new customers only so I did the usual terminate my contract then.

Whilst I was on hold to customer care I saw this on USwitch, went through the check process and there was the option to do the one touch cancel so I selected that, seconds later I got an email from CF about the switch (still on hold to the customer care team)

About 10 mins later they picked up and confirmed my account details and they said they could see the request to cancel and then said it was a good offer and that they could drop mine to to the same price, I said no I want the one I saw online so they did that and added 2 x months free along with the new router etc.

Just annoys me that you have to go through the whole process of leaving to actually get a decnet deal.

I hate that dance too but there’s nothing I can do. Last time I left Sky in 2020 they wished me well on my journey. Never even bothered to offer a lower price from what their renewal was at (£33 for 64Mbps). I said no problem, went with Talktalk for £17.99 for their 150Mbps.

as others have said, bite the bullet and cancel, and you’ll get a call back from them in a day or two with an actually good offer.

I am going to! The only downside is that I am getting the Volt benefits on my O2 month-only sim like EU Roaming & Zone 1 roaming, which I’ve used over the years. They don’t have that deal any longer

Add Volt after broadband. They have it. Call O2, they will get you that Volt with the roaming. I got it without even asking. But first check for the price of their 250GB bundle if you try to add it manually on the broadband. Then bargain for that price as it is usually lower than what you see on their site.
Or get a good SIM inly deal for 250GB and turn it to volt

chances are you’ll be on a new Virgin deal well before your notice period’s up - as far as O2’s concerned, you won’t have left.

I was with Swish Fibre, when my contract ended, Open Reach just finished their FTTP roll out so I jumped to them on the idea I can then switch between different providers over the same cable.

I did the one touch cancel thing, it was instant, I got an email from Swish instantly, followed by 1 5 minutes later offering me a better price, but I’m of the opinion you could have offered me that before, you didn’t and you thought we can take this fool for everything he has. Needless to say I am not rushing back to them.

One good thing, the lady who came to do my swish install did a lovely job, whereas the ape that Openreach sent made a mess of the outside of the house and didn’t even bother tying the fibre to the downpipe he used.

The what?

Ape - a subfamily of primates that include Man (Hom. Sapien), Chimps (Pan), Gorilla (Gorilla), Orangutan (Pongo) and Gibbons.

Many apes are highly intelligent and can use tools, others are subcontracted by OpenReach to install broadband

Weird thing was CF had a fibre drop on the telegraph pole at the end of our street for over 4 years before they started selling here (as Hey Broadband). I suspect someone must have had a business line installed

Our broadband is going from 250MB/s to 1GB/s for free soon, which is more than adequate for what we use it for (basically streaming TV) :slightly_smiling_face:

Threatened with cancellation. They wouldn’t budge; the best they could do is £52 a month, which is what I am paying now. I am just gonna sign up in my wife’s name because no one else does the speeds they do and it’s also crazy the 1GBPs connection for new customers is £22 a month

Just do that

Got a random text today about a £19 offer. Called them up and they were offering the 250mb for £19. The guy gave me a 1 GB connection for £25.00 with basic Netflix with ads. I didn’t want Netflix, but he said it wasn’t going to reduce the price either way

Such a relief paying half the price now for the next year at least

Surprised they weren’t required to tell me ahead of time about the change, rather than a day after they made the change. Not bothered though.
