We’re only a week out from Christmas. We were chatting today in the office about funny Christmas traditions in Ireland.
One of the team told us in his house, they don’t open ANY presents until after their dinner at 5pm! Definitely a divided the office. What do you think?
Pictured, our office Christmas tree wearing a witch’s hat (don’t ask).
No presents until AFTER dinner? And Christmas dinner at 5pm?
Wouldn’t be tolerated in my family.
Household gifts should be done once everyone is up. I’ll allow time for a brew to wake up though, and you can save the “ needs to see your face when you open it” presents until everyone is together if you wanted. Other than that, I couldn’t wait until AFTER dinner (which usually takes 2-3 hours for everyone to be full).
no funny trasitions here, other than everyone getting too drunk and not wanting to redo it all again on Boxing Day for the other side of the family.
(We don’t get both sides of the family together at once, as that would be a disaster)
In terms of traditions - the mother used not let us open presents until everyone was awake and dinner by 1pm. Now a days I look back and wonder what she was doing
For me it’s always Christmas presents in the morning and then dinner later on and a Christmas movie, and one on Christmas Eve, just to get the hype before the big day of course, so not really funny but still a tradition so hope it counts
