You’re now no longer longer limited to £200 of contactless transactions before having to enter your PIN.
You can either leave this as Dynamic so monzo decides as and when you need to enter your PIN, or you can choose a limit of up to £1k. Looking at the wording of this, it seems monzo can still ask for your PIN, even if you’ve not hit your custom spend cap.
The £100 contactless limit still applies, and can’t be changed.
I can’t remember the last time I used my physical monzo card. But for those who do use the physical thing, they’ve got more customisability now which is good.
I’m surprised monzo isn’t allowing the single tap limit to be changed to a value >£100. As I believe with the new regulations they’re allowed to. Probably too much fraud risk.
I had this recently with a different bank, NatWest. I taped the card and it asked for the pin, without me having to insert the card. I think this is good.
I know they’ve probably done the math here to work out if it’s worth doing, but IMO we should be phasing out contactless cards now digital wallet technology exists.
It’s not as secure as digital wallet technology nor chip and pin (obviously) and while the bank is taking the risk, it’s still going to be annoying when you’re waiting for them to resolve it.
Wondering if dynamic contactless is only available for paid accoutns, as I’ve just downgraded to free account and this option isn’t available on my account.
I do use Apple Pay for most of my transactions these days, but had to use my physical card for a car purchase, still had to put in my PIN number though
