Do they offer Apple Pay/Google Pay as an option? I choose that for my Ocado deliveries and it removes the endless active card checks (as there is a biometric scan in app when using Apple Pay).
You shouldnāt be surprised. You were told this in the first few responses in this topic.
The merchant can turn on or off 3D secure, however, depending on who they use to process their payments, the average transaction value, liability and total sales, it might be mandatory that it is enabled. Even then there is an algorithm for what triggers it to ask for authentication.
I would imagine that whichever bank they use to process their payments will also play a part. So as you mentioned, perhaps Sainsburys do their own banking with Nationwide so theyāre given more flexibility.
At the end of the day there are too many variables and therefore itās one of those things we will never know.
Good thing no one was surprised then. It was also mentioned that Monzo might have been able to turn it off so was worth a try, especially as it seems Iām not the only one annoyed by this.
The way you wrote it seemed like you were expecting a different response despite being told otherwise. Especially since youāre now going to ask again with a different merchant and are āhopingā for a different outcome
This is just another one of the issues where the solution is ādonāt use monzo.ā Sadly, thatās about the only response youāll get from this forum.
Itās suggested at the start of the thread to mention it to Morrisonsand Iāve already said that I assume they wonāt do anything to help. Is it worth spending a few minutes of my time to see if they can make a change which will mean we wonāt have to switch from Monzo to another bank? Sure it is!
No need to get upset.
It isnāt the only response, to be fair. But it is often the one that works best.
Donāt worry Iām not upset
I just find it odd that you ask for help, ignore it all and then go into chat and ask. Surely you should have done from the outset if you donāt value peoples opinions on here? Or is it because you didnāt get the answer you wanted?
Either way. Let us know what they say about Morrisons.
Probably. I had a winking face on the end of my last statement and it was flagged, which implied I knew the outcome mixed with a bit of satire so I just removed it and my post is visible again.
I donāt think name calling will help either - Iām certainly not grumpy. I explained in my last comment why I asked the question and itās a fair comment.
Welcome to the forum! Please donāt let it put you off letting us know what Morrisonās have to say.
@Anarchist even posted saying he had a similar issue with Sainsburys until he called his previous bank and they whitelisted Sainsburys on his account. Donāt see why getting in touch with Monzo after that is a bad idea.
Ignoring the ādifficultā people beingā¦ ādifficultāā¦ this is interesting as Itās my understanding that Morrisonās online is basically an adapted version of Ocado, and I had a period of a few weeks where suddenly every time I made a change to my Ocado shopping and so had to checkout again it performed another card check and needing to authorise again, which led to my feed being full of of 0p transactions each time I remembered I needed to add a pint of milk or some aquafaba or a royal doulton tea service. After a few weeks it stopped and, as before, only does this on the first checkout and no future ones. I only mention it as it may be a feature of the Ocado system, rather than something that Morrisonās themselves can easily do anything about.
This does seem to be more and more common across the web now. I remember it being brought up before.
Seems like itās only going to be worse!
Just to retry my comment from above as it got a little missed. Can you set up Monzo with Apple Pay/Google pay and check out with that? It fixed the issue for me on Ocado.
Will give that a go in a bit! Thanks
If Monzo had a decent fraud modelling team they would be able to score transactions in real time and set referral strategies - this is exactly what the bigger uk banks do, you know, the ones that arenāt as ānimbleā as Monzo
Two things:
- āBigger UK banksā have decades of data to help them model risk, Monzo only has a few years worth.
- My understanding is that if a bank completes a 3D Secure check the merchant initiates without passing the check on to the customer, the bank assumes liability for any fraud. Monzo donāt have the deep pockets to cover such risk that ābigger UK banks doā, so itās no surprise that they are erring on the risk averse side still.
You donāt need decades of data to build a decent transaction whitelisting model, itās straightforward, but given the topic itās best not discussed in open forum
Iām assuming they already do, do some internal checks of some sort. Iāve had purchases go through 3D secure which I donāt need to authorise, it brings up all the Monzo branding etc and then says the payments been authorised. Always retailers Iāve used before, so it is doable I guess it just depends on what their own internal risk policies are as to what theyāll do though.
