Moneybox did a blog about a year and a bit ago about they’re developers bringing in dark mode it was an interesting read as they mentioned the number of different screens that all needed to be changed one by one, followed by altering and graphics to make sure they matched perfectly. I can’t find the link to it but if I ever do I’ll post it here.
I’m sure some people think it’s just someone changing the white background to black and that’s it done

Implementing a Dark theme is fairly straightforward.
One feature that needs to be implemented with dark mode is ‘Follow the system default theme’ option. A simple on and off switch will not suffice at all, we need it to follow the global setting. Genuinely kills me that a few big names still don’t have this option (FB Messenger & Twitter)

Both of those apps have that setting for me (on iOS at least)!

Especially that we seem to have different Dark Mode themes:

Doubt
I doubt there’ll be an update today, there was an update from 3.59.0 to 3.60.0 later yesterday (in which the extra Dark Mode strings were discovered)
At this point, I’d say we’re waiting for Monzo to flip the server-side switch to activate the Dark Mode feature.

Ooh - good find 
Maybe certain elements will follow the system setting (light/dark) and others will follow the app setting (‘Lights Out’ or ‘Midnight Sky’)

No but I do not imagine it will be
On iOS at least, I think there’s store rules against locking OS features behind a paywall - and rightly so.

But not if it’s bundled with other offers, I think. At least that’s how Apollo gets away with notifications for Apollo Ultra

I’d assumed push notifications were treated differently as there’s an ongoing server cost to the developer.
This is, as usual, all stuff I’ve mostly made up without actually doing any research.

No, I haven’t either. You could be right about push notifications.
But then Monzo could just disable the ‘follow system default’ option and then it’s hard to argue it’s an OS feature. It would be no different from a manually selectable pink-mode or lime green-mode or rainbow unicorn-mode
