I go the simple route. Mince, make a ball, squish, salt and pepper, and cook. You get a nice burger out of that.
They’re not as good as the Impossible Burger, but have you tried the Linda McCartney mozzarella burgers? They’re cheaper than Beyond Meat burgers and I really like them, they’re much “meatier” than typical veggie burgers. I’m not a vegetarian but my partner is, so I too am always on the lookout for good alternatives!
Beyond Meat burgers definitely aren’t as good as the Impossible Burger but they’re decent, I’d only buy them as a treat though at that price.
I found Beyond Meat to be a pretty typical veggie paddy, which is good if you like that but the texture isn’t the same as meat.
I’ve heard the impossible burger has the same texture as beef which I am extremely excited about, is it true?
I don’t mind veggie meals, I dislike veggie meals that are supposed to be like for like replacements and miss the mark.
Yeah I’d say it’s true - when I had it I’m not sure I’d have been able to tell the difference between the Impossible burger and beef (and I’m a meat eater so it’s not like I’ve forgotten what beef is like!).
My partner, who is a vegetarian, can’t eat the Impossible burger because its texture and taste is too similar to meat for her and it makes her feel sick. For that reason I hear they’re aimed at meat eaters looking to reduce their consumption, or vegetarians/vegans who actively miss meat.
I’ve gone from meat pretty much in every meal to having at least one vegetarian and one fish based meal a week - it has probably increased my spending.
I used to get hampers from places like Muscle Food which I just portioned out and froze and it would cost me less than £10 a week for full lunch and evening meals. Although moving into a flat with a small freezer has probably been one of the causes for my increase.
I think meal planning/ prepping and portion control can save a tonne of money - Now I tend to make ‘double’ throw it in the fridge and have it for lunch the next day, that definitely cuts down some cost.
From my experience, yes, absolutely true.
I can’t say whether it would taste exactly the same if you ate it completely plain, but I will say that though I ordered the Impossible Burger twice in two different locations run by different companies and so I’m sure I actually got what I asked for, I couldn’t confidently tell you, with it on a bun with toppings, that they didn’t just give me a beef burger.
I know I could serve it to my overly carnivorous husband, and he wouldn’t have a clue.
I’ve tried even more UK burgers since my last post on this threat - Meatless Farm being the worst experience of them all - and I can still find nothing close here.
