Cruise Chat

Hi All,

I know many people don’t like Cruises but personally i’ve been doing them for many years back in the US.

Mainly from Miami and New York. I’ve been on a few Cruise Lines, Carnival, Royal Caribbean ETC

Anyone else like Cruises and / or Cruise Ships??

I think it’s one of my nightmares, being stuck in a Petri dish that also rocks about so I can be sea sick on top of regular sick.

When I go back to the US to see family. I’m thinking of going via Cruise to the States then fly back to the UK.

Something like this NCL Cruise

You ever tried one? It’s a lot different.

I like Virgin Voyages (Scarlet Lady). Largely because their ships are adult-only and the WiFi works well.

I’ve heard mixed things about Virgin Voyages.

My parents did one from Miami and told me it was one of the greatest cruises they ever did and couldn’t praise the food enough.

But then a couple friends of mine did it for a week cruise from Miami and said it was Dirty, Overpriced and had horrible Staff.

I’m yet to try them myself. But I see they travel from Southampton. So one to try.

I went across the Channel once, and was violently sick the whole journey. If someone wants to pay for a free cruise for me so I can see if a bigger ship is more stable, I’ll happily try, but I’m not spending my own money on it

Come along with me. Makes it so much cheaper for me then a single fare :joy:

Big Ships are so much more stable!

As long as you don’t snore

Never.

As in hygiene dirty OR… ? There is quite a lot of that onboard with Virgin, with it being adult-only. You know who they are though, as they wear those pineapple badges.

Virgin are trying to clean up their image and give their cruises more mainstream appeal.

That’s a bit pricey as well!

£1.7K for a inside cabin for 7 nights from Portsmouth. :rage:

Prices keep going up with Virgin. They seem to be experiencing high demand, sadly.

You used to be able to get a 7-day Mediterranean trip in a cabin with a balcony, along with unlimited food and drinks for approx £1200 (for 2 people).

I guess it’s supply and demand but it’s still frustrating. I wouldn’t pay that for an inside cabin going from Portsmouth.

I wouldn’t pay £1.7K for a inside cabin period.

I managed to get a Royal Caribbean Miami 5 day at sea cruise with a couple of mates for £1.2K balcony, and a drinks package!

That’s pretty good. I’ve never done Royal Caribbean - I’m not a fan of “city ships”.

Almost 6000 people on the same ship is my idea of hell. Virgin ships are much smaller and you can easily get away from the people if needed.

Plus the mega ships are full of children, and as a childless couple, nothing annoys us more than the noise they make. Seconded only by their entitled parents.

I love cruises!
Been a long time since I have been on one but I have a med one booked for this summer.
Struggling to get cruise travel insurance for it though.

StaySure tend to be quite good for health issues and cruise holidays.

Just don’t settle for a standard travel insurance policy. You will regret it if you happen to miss a port departure. So many make this mistake.

We have done a fair few cruises.

We often opt for either Azzamara or Silver Sea, as again no children on board and there is around 300 (sometimes more) passengers.

They both tend to have a staff ratio of 2:1 passengers.

They are priced slightly higher often around £5.2k per person, but then it out prices families which is what we tend to avoid, so we do not mind paying the extra for peace and quiet.

It’s mostly older couples and professionals from what we’ve seen so far.

We’ve done several cruises in the last 3 decades - NCL, Cunard, Celebrity, MSC

NCL was 2003 ‘Dawn’ from NYC to the Caribbean, 2005 ‘Spirit’ from NYC to the Caribbean and 2019 ‘Epic’ from Barcelona around the Med & back - all very family based.

Cunard in 2006 on the one and only QM2 crossing from NY to Southampton in 2006. Simply incredible and VERY ‘posh’ (if you know, you know)

Celebrity was 2018 ‘Constellation’ from Venice around the Med & back - high-class ship

MSC in 2021 on ‘Virtuosa’ - a very special coming-out-of-covid-test-run just around the UK from Liverpool-to-Liverpool, 2023 on ‘Virtuosa’ again, from Southampton around the Canaries & back - massive ship with everything including the incredibly difficult F1 simulator.

Favourite? Cunard for couples. Celebrity for class. MSC for all-in and NCL for value.
