COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The article says “Consumers struggling will be able to request up to £500 is provided at 0% for up to three months on their main account. Customers without an overdraft will also be able to request this facility.” (emphasis mine)

How do you imagine this will be overseen?

Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe those who are struggling should receive more financial support, I just think this is a blunt and potentially dangerous instrument.

Hopefully the interest free overdraft is only given to those who apply for it. So it can be reviewed properly to see if it would benefit the individual.

I liken it to my interest free student overdraft that I got. I naively acted like it was free money and lived with it maxed out throughout most of my time at university. One day, they came knocking for me to pay it back and it started having fees applied to it. It took me forever to clear it :slightly_frowning_face:

Would hate for similar to happen to others with this one.

That is exactly my fear.

It doesn’t say they’ll be provided the facility, but that they can request it. Presumably (I hope!) the banks will then do their standard credit assessment and decide whether they can provide an overdraft to the customer.

I hope you are right. I obviously have less faith in the FCA than you and other posters here! :see_no_evil:

I’m in at least two categories of the list. Other people I know who also qualify are also not getting letters hence my wondering were they’re getting their lists from, since they’re as mentioned not using GP data and apparently not using Hospital data either…

It really only matters if supermarkets start using these lists as has been implied might happen - unless they’re accurate people will be left out. I can say screw it and break quarantine (I’ve already had to once for essentials)… for lots of others that’s not an option.

I know it probably doesn’t rank highest on the list of things to be concerned about, but it we thought 2016 was bad for celebrities, this year is sure to be worse.

One of the earlier memories of my young life is Saturday(?) evenings watching Little and Large on the telly with my mum and dad

At the press conference where they announced Shielding, they mentioned the 4 (?) ways they they were identifying people.

For instance try here though one of the other Q&A questions (or the briefing) may give info as well.

Yes, they announced all that. The discussion here is that what they announced doesn’t seem to match what’s actually happening.

569 have died today in the UK, I really hope we get through this

Key worker checking in again

Overtime pay and the 10% bonus the company I work for are paying for working during lockdown and ~£1 liter petrol (from today)

No spending apart from the canteen, food and fuel so I also can build some big savings.

You have. Adding smiley faces really doesn’t help. Watch your tone. Would you speak to a friend in the same way?

Exactly Rat_au_van.

I don’t think anyone “wants” multiple peaks. There will be multiple peak regardless, again this is obvious if you actually read the literature before weighing in.

As I’ve explained at length already in this thread we know FOR A FACT mid-May is 0% likely. Controls will continue sporadically for at least 5-6 months.

Again, please stop spreading misinformation, it’s really not helpful.

Hostility or not - what is the problem with explaining something [perhaps for the upteenth time] so that those who dont know - know? R-

Personally I think your wording needs some work @anon28680395. What @michaelw90 clearly meant was “prefer” smaller multiple peaks as opposed to one big NHS crippling one. Show a little humility. R-
