Collected Thoughts on Card Design (Part 2)

Irish account; had it open while I lived over there, never closed it down as it’s handy for when I travel to Europe or back to Ireland for a couple of months at a time. Pay €6 a month for the privilege mind but it is what it is.

@jo Aye I know, looks awful when using chip and PIN lol, Google Pay image is still the old card too, believe these ones have been out for nearly 3 years now- Ireland isn’t quick on changing things hahaha, drives my card OCD crazy

It is aye, may as well post that one too while I’m at it  entering into a DRO as a result of the last 8 months being messy asf life wise, it was the only account I was eligible for; I do like the colours of the card but Nationwide drive me crazy with no analytics or spend notifications

It’s a nice looking card. I tired to get one by going into branch and I got some very confused looks.

Hey your DRO will be over soon and then you can get so many more cards!

Are you able to open a Revolut account? Still baffles me that Irish banks charge so many fees. I’d be binning them off immediately

Yep I’ve already got a UK Revolut but find when I go back home, especially to withdraw cash, I get charged extortionate fees from the ATMs, whether they’re bank-owned or private ATMs. The €6 a month I transfer over each month isn’t too much off my back for the convenience, plus I’ve got a car back in Ireland at my parents that I keep taxed and insured, and you need an Irish bank account to do those transactions  helps too when my mother wants to bung me a few euros she’s got spare too haha

I did have an Irish Revolut account for a bit but found I was getting charged fees to transfer to my friends here in the UK who have Revolut, so closed it and reopened a UK one instead.

Can you open the UK NI version of BoI as an English resident?

UK/NI ones have the same design but say ‘Bank of Ireland UK’ on them.

No idea how they look on Apple Pay or Google Wallet though. Probably the same as the Irish ones.

Think Ulster Bank was the only that allowed non-NI residents to open but you can always give it a try and let us know

Doesn’t look like there’s a distinction so presumably you’d just pick a branch here.

Clear Account - Bank of Ireland UK

You can open these accounts in the UK.

For which account?

You don’t need to live in Northern Ireland - it just states UK. If you need to physically provide documents you will need to go to Northern Ireland but otherwise it’s all online.

You personally will need to travel to Northern Ireland at this stage, as under 18.

This looks like a decent account, and if I’m not mistaken it can do free euro direct debits too EDIT: I think I am mistaken

I have this card myself although I don’t actively use BOI now - when I added mine to Apple Wallet at the time it showed the old card design which is awful.
And in fact the old design looks worse physically, when the light catches it right it looks like there is a physical crease down the card.

But it gets worse - I have seen others receiving the new card design in Apple Pay and it’s vertical like in real life, IE the card looks like it’s on its side :joy:

Interesting I could have sworn they changed it to just be for NI residents

Definitely not on their website. The terms of the account reference customers in NI, Scotland, England and Wales.

Looks like a Reform membership card

Back in the US, the Revolut Visa Infinite cards didn’t actually give you any of the Visa Infinite benefits.

Is it the same in the UK?

I thought it looked black, red blue and white myself…

I’'ll get my :coat:

You might be thinking of Allied Irish as I think they have an NI version that is different from the GB one.

I’ve got to try and link it to my friend’s iPhone now to see if it does appear vertical. If that’s still the case, that is shocking and I will never be the same again :joy:
