I think it’s daft people want Mastercard and visa tbh. Unless your country doesn’t have one or the other (the UK has both) then it doesn’t matter.
Same. I don’t get why shutting would prefer one over the other, though I admit I might be missing something? Ten years ago so my cards were Visa, know they’re all Mastercard. I have not noticed a single difference.
I have been to a country where some ATMs could take one card network for withdrawal, with even a label that Mastercard will not work yet on the machine itself there’s a sticker with all those networks listed. Put your Mastercard in and the best you card is check balance, no cash. Not sure if the banks owning them disabled Mastercard.
In that same country most people think all cards are Visa, and when referring to bank cards they say my “Visa” my “Visa” that.
Which is the best Revolut Metal card colour? The black card looks nice but I think it’ll end up chipping really easily.
When I was thinking about it @Carlo1460 recommended the gold.
Same - although rare, it was somewhere in Eastern Europe (maybe Romania?) where I couldn’t use an ATM with a card from the same bank because the network was different. This was probably 15 years ago, but the ATM was RBS and I couldn’t use a UK RBS card in it, Visa only (must have been when they issued Maestro cards, as I def had an RBS Visa at some point). Ended up having to use a credit card to take out a cash advance.
Then there’s also that fiasco from more recent years with Olympic tickets and having to pay with a Visa.
These are pretty infrequent situations though, most of the time one or the other will cover all scenarios.
I want the new Chrome one for my collection, the metal grey is very smart.
My gold is quite battered from years of use, I’ll fetch them out tomorrow if I remember.
I carry my grey premium card about in my wallet.
That grey / silver definitely looks really nice. Now I’m torn between both this and the gold.
My gold expires next year, and had a good 3 years use out of it for it to become so battered. 5 year expiry in total.
Not that uncommon e.g. coop ATMs are Visa only, Coventry too I think, some cruise companies are Visa only too.
As in coop shop? I’ve used chase and Monzo in those before?
No, CoOp bank. They were Visa/Link only last time I looked.
Found this photo on Google of a Coop bank ATM, seems to now take MasterCard. They probably now allow other cards than Visa as NoteMachine has took over their ATMs
Still probably running the same old Windows XP though ![]()
Fair, less infrequent than I thought then. Still, one each of those should cover 99.9%, unless there’s a specific desire to carry a JCB, Diners, EFTPOS, UnionPay, etc. on top ![]()
Most of us in this thread probably would haha.
Are eftpos only cards still a thing in Australia?
I think you can request them, but most seem to be dual brand with Visa or MasterCard. One plus with paying by EFTPOS is that you can avoid the surcharges sometimes. To use it, I had to do chip & PIN as contactless was just Visa on my card.
Makes sense, the vast majority of domestic card schemes (girocard, cb france, dankort) are co-branded with visa/mc. My HSBC AU card, which is a visa, has the eftpos logo on the back.
My French debit card has both CB and Visa logos on the front. Haven’t yet noticed any difference in using it in France compared to a UK-issued Visa or MC though.
You will if you use It in a Credit Agricole ATM. Free for a French/EU issued card, €5 for a UK issued card.
