Collected Thoughts on Card Design (Part 2)

Also, is the second HSBC Global Account Debit card from Hong Kong or another place? I swear only the UK does it

Ah yeah, the second Global Money card is HSBC Expat (Jersey/Channel Islands) - there’s also one listed in my US accounts, but that doesn’t have a card, whereas HSBC Expat doesn’t issue normal debit cards now, just the Global Money one I’m told (although the accounts are still separate).

Where’s the purple Premier card from? Just the design is virtually identical to the China Premier card but I note HSBC is in English, which it is not on the CN card. Very curious

HSBC US is the one with the purple lion, that’s the debit card (first pic). In the last pic, with the two purple lion cards one above the other, they’re both Australia (ED Global debit and Premier credit).

My HK account has a lion on the green debit card, the red UnionPay card (Premier ATM wording) is just the basic design, as is the Premier CC (albeit in grey, very similar to the UK World Elite).

Singapore (Premier Everyday Global Debit wording) is just boring red lines too, but with a fade to black top and bottom.

Beautiful, but annual fee over £1,000:fearful:

It’s very nice, but I’d worry about using it. I’d get annoyed at the first scuff though.

One of those cards you add to Apple / Google Pay and then never use the physical card

That looks stunning:-) I guess the fee covers some perks though?

My renewed Wise card arrived. The new green is a lot less attention-seeking, they don’t have white-on-bright colours, and the design is the right way up. Nice improvement IMO.

Whoa, that’s the first non-Visa Wise card I’ve seen.

The Business one I have is basically the reverse:

titanium debit?

Was also wondering if it is a new one. They have these fancy names with no added benefits on the cards

Visa Titanium is a new one on me, perhaps it’s their answer to the new Mastercard Legend?

Card issuers are only giving people higher scheme tiers (World Elite, Infinite etc) because they receive higher interchange income each time you use your card in a country that doesn’t have capped interchange. It’s very one sided.

In my opinion, Visa/MC should insist that each of the tiers include all associated perks, and the issuer shouldn’t be allowed to pick and choose. :man_shrugging:

It’s an improvement. I’m still not a huge fan of the green though.

I have no idea about the “titanium” thing. It also has the “world” brand mark on the back of the card. Neither of these things are of any benefit to me.

So is Wise moving back to Mastercard after moving to Visa few years back? Or they will run both at the same time like NWG?
I am getting confused.

Virtual cards are still Visa for me. Also, my card was sent from Australia (which is where I first opened my account from) so that could be a factor.

I’ve no idea. Dual issuing is quite a good idea though. It means when a bank gets a better deal from one scheme over the other, they can easily switch the bulk of their cards over.

I wouldn’t get too comfortable with preferring one scheme over the other. I suspect we are going to see big banks moving between them every few years (when contracts expire).

This doesn’t bother me as I have a good chunk of cards from either side. Just wondering if they’re doing the or they will have both.
This new one can also be good for my collection.

Titanium certainly sounds better than Legend. What were Mastercard thinking.

It looks like they may have regional differences for the cards they issue.
