Halifax/BoS/Lloyds, Nationwide, not sure about TSB. Smile/CoOp.

Cards for Nationwide savings accounts are only available if you open the account in a branch, not if you open it online.

Has that changed? I’m sure I opened mine online a few years back.

The terms and conditions of Nationwide’s Instant Access account state:

“A cash card will only be provided if you open your account in branch and you ask for one.”

With Lloyds, Halifax, and BoS you have to ask in branch for a card, or maybe via chat. A card won’t be sent automatically.

Do they???

The Nationwide card is particularly useless as it only works in their machines.

Lloyds, Halifax, Bank of Scotland
TSB
Nationwide
Barclays
Smile
Post Office

I think that’s the complete list - I certainly spent some time trying to track them down last year.

For Nationwide can confirm they can only do it in branch, and they have to open a new account, they can’t order a card for an existing account opened online.

Just got my new physical HSBC SG Premier debit card with the new design…… ordered a new UK Premier one too but I do expect it to look similar!

Also here’s a shot of a Singaporean digital bank’s credit card that I just got as well too - it’s not too bad I reckon but a little too playful for my taste

I just phoned them and they didn’t seem to think they did, and there’s no mention on the website.

Swanky!

And Metro.

Going by the website, you seem to be able to choose to have a card: https://www.nationwide.co.uk/savings/instant-access-saver/

Had an issue with one of my debit cards from Panama and got sent a replacement. It used to be white, now it’s purple. Not too bad.

Shame this bank doesn’t allow cards to be added in Apple Wallet.

For nationwide, yes, you can choose to have a cash card, but only if you open the account in branch (you can see it mentioned in the t&cs).

For metro - are you sure? There’s no mention that I could find on their website, and customer service said no.

I was going by this: Cash Account | Basic banking needs | Metro Bank but, although it calls it a cash account, not entirely sure that it’s not a limited debit card.

If you download the PDF it tells you that it’s a MasterCard PayPass contactless debit card.

Yeah I’m not a fan of the new Premier card.

Prefer the one before this.

Yes I prefer the old one, but I think there is a mix of opinions. I think that we should do a poll. ‘Old card’ refers to the card with the sort of HSBC logo image and not any of the lion cards.

Which HSBC (UK) Premier Debit Card design do you prefer?
  • Old Design
  • New design
